The slab insert cost isn't rising. It is because they are getting so many submissions. Higher fees will slow it down some and also the money could be used to hire more graders.

Higher fees did not slow it down the last time and won't help this time!
As for more graders, they think there are no graders out there that meet their qualifications. This type of thinking is going to be their downfall, IMO!

The slow turnaround time is not a lack of graders, it's a lack of organization and effective systemization. Just look at the randomness of the order in which submissions are completed - there is no FIFO in place despite their claims to the contrary. That's just one indication of procedural failure that has nothing to do with submission volume.
NGC is grading just as many coins and consistently turns them in 1/3 the time. THEY are organized.
Agreed PCGS needs to be better organized and grade coins, within the assorted submission levels, first in, first out ... it's not hurting them now while the market is hot, but what will be the NCG and PCGS market shares once the market cools? Don't get me wrong, PCGS for me, but ...
It is extremely difficult to find qualified graders. The coin dealing community is pretty close knit and we basically know everyone who has the skills necessary. The problem is that there are not a lot of them, and many have other things to do...and/or live in other places and don't want to re-locate.
I guess the answer is that we recruit from the dealer community.
Colletors tend to be experts in the field they collect, dealers have been ripped off in almost every field they sell, that's why they know more------------------------------BigE

David Hall never said there are no graders out there. He said there is only about a dozen or more really qualified and also said: where they get them
and high estimates of 50-100 people

I didn't get that e-mail.. Maybe only those that were naughty got them for X-mas (Marty, I'm sure you got one:Funny. >>
It wasn't an email, it was a bulk snail-mail mailing that all active collector club members and dealers should have recieved.

Don't believe everything you read!
Sometimes things are more clear if you open your eyes and look just a little further than your nose!
And, like Russ said, it's lack of organization!

Exactly. I'd like to hear where you got the "there are no qualified graders" comment by David Hall.

Same here.

one of the net results of the increase will probably be a slight increase in regular 15 day submissions as
well as a decrease in economy submissions.
