What's the latest word about showing images of coins that are or might be for sale?

I heard there was a new rule but wanted to seek confirmation...i heard that until further notice we can show images of coins that are or might be for sale but we just can't essentially promote them.

Is that the new rule?

I don't know what the big deal is. I love coins whether they are for sale or not. The more the merrier especially when they are the quality of Anacondas offerings.image

How would anyone know they were for sale unless we said they were? image

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • Whose rule is that? Who did you hear it from?

Not true.........any coin can be shown on the coin forum, so long as there is no reference to it being for sale.
A least, that's according to both Carol and sportsmoderator.

    That's my preference as well.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I've never had a problem with showing images of coins that "might be for sale".

I don't think we should not be allowed to not look at coins that are not offered for sale unless the owner does not have intentions of not offering said coins for sale and therefore choses against not showing them to us in the first place.

That is, unless we chose not to.

This is precisely what I was told that the new rule was (or that the new interpretation of the old rule was).

Can anyone substantiate this by linking a thread or copying the content of a PM from Carol or sportsmoderator?

    It would be appreciated.

[PS I'm not trying to bring up old discussions of the merits of the heart of the topic, I'm just seeking substantiation of the new rule or the new interpretation. I could also be seeking, in the same vein as GSAguy, simply what is a more refined articulation of a previous interpretation and not a wholly new interpretation, with regard, of course, to the specific issue of whether or not a person can post an image of a coin that is "for sale". Dig it?]

As far as I'm concerned, almost (if not) all coins are for sale for the right price. PM's can be (and are) discretely sent if there is a strong interest by a forum member to purchase a coin shown on the U.S. Coin Forum.

However, I think that the intention of the rules are to keep the threads on topics of some numismatic interest for discussion and/or educational purposes, and to keep the "for sale" ads in the BS&T Forum.

From what I've seen you can display your coolest coins anytime you want in any forum!image

  • Thanks. I appreciate that. Unfortunately, if I post images in violation of the rules, then it may open the door to the posting of trash coins under the guise of sharing.

I truly do enjoy posting images of my coins (often because I'm proud of the photography) but I can find other things to do that won't get people who I like, upset.

  • I can always post images of coins I own in the open forum.
  • I can also post repeatedly to my own thread to give the appearance that I just like to see my threads at the top like frattlaw said.
  • That would be annoyance without a violation of the rules.
  • gsaguygsaguy Posts: 2,425
    I agree. It would.

Well, if you post pics somewhere else, not wanting to break rules here, if indeed such rules exist and are in force, please provide a link to the pic. I like seeing coin pics that are of themselves interesting works of art image

  • I think it would be fairly easy to tell when someone is trying to run shop through the U.S. Coins forum instead of posting pics for general knowledge, oohs and aahs.

Post pictures and share some background and history about it. I believe that if someone started to go overboard on the pictures and starts using hype then they would be flamed into submission.
