Peace Dollar experts - do you think this one could go MS65 at PCGS?

Greetings, All -

I was looking at a coin tonight that I won from a Heritage auction a while ago. Having seen a lot of coins since the last time I looked at it, the coin's luster really catches my eye. In fact, I've got an MS66 Peace Dollar that isn't as lustrous (the 66 is cleaner, though).

I'm wondering if the coin might get a 65 from PCGS, as I know they tend to appreciate luster. Could you tell me what you think the chances are? Here it is...

1922 S1$, NGC MS64

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan, as stated in the text, the reverse is rough. I think those hits on the reverse are really distracting and I would not look at that as a high end 4.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

I'd keep that one in the NGC slab, PCGS would probably BB it for QT.

I think it's lucky to be in an MS64 slab although the colors are nice for a Peace.
  • Nice coin, but MS64 is generous. It might be less at PCGS.

i think it would easily go into a pcgs holder at ms-64 - if for some reason you want to. don't know why you'd want to do that though, it would still be the exact same coin.

  • That smudge to the left of her face will look worse in person. There is no way it will get a MS-65 at PCGS.

There is no way that this coin will upgrade to MS-65 at PCGS. It's got too many marks on the reverse.

Toning should not raise the grade when it is covering marks that would make the coin a lower grade. There is no crack out potential here.

I just received back from PCGS a raw submitted 1922 Peace. It came back MS65 and it had minor marks. I thought it had a chance at MS66. I would agree with those who say it will not cross, keep it in the NGC holder. If you choose to send it in then image
