Something to look/watch out for with coins in older holders and this something is NOT good...

Many, if not most collectors and dealers, upon hearing the alluring words “old(er) holder”, immediately think about good things such as under-graded, upgrade and $.
But, it’s not all good with older holders. In addition to the fact that many coins in older holders are no better, quality-wise, than ones in newer holders, I have seen a good number of coins with PVC in older holders. And, many of these PVC affected coins have enough PVC on them, so that they surely did not look that way at the time they were graded and encapsulated. In other words, the PVC has gotten worse over time.
So, the next time you see a coin in an older holder, rather than getting excited about how it might be a good up-grade candidate, take a good look at it and make sure it hasn’t been contaminated by PVC.

Older holders do not always mean better, I have seen numerous overgraded coins in older holders also.

I've bought many Old-Green PCI slabbed coins. After cracking them out I give the sliver coins an acetone rinse just to be safe.

This PVC problem is something I've noticed on a regular basis over the last few years. I have observed many coins in older holders with PVC developing, so I now treat such coins before resubmitting them. As well you know, getting a bodybag for PVC contamination is not only disappointing, but hurts profitability as well, and reveals that I missed something wrong with the coin. It's important for everyone not to assume that their older slabbed coins are free from contaminants. For the sake of information, PCGS will rectify PVC problems under their guarantee service, although such coins must be submitted through a dealer. NGC will also remove PVC under their Appearance Review Service. I have used both of these services with good results.
Be careful out there!
