Hey, the auction's been killed, wiped off the board. Did eBay finally check into this doofus? He was maintaining he had the card in his hands as recently as yesterday and warning people not to slander him. I'm glad he didn't rip anybody off.
I wonder if it would be inappropriate to tip off the university that Mr. Gabe 222 is using the school's 'net connection to run scams on eBay. If it is indeed the same guy whose college admissions officer should be fired.

My mistake. But check out the feedback of the winner. He was also the winning bidder in the previous scam involving this card, and was given a neg for nonpayment before the seller was NARU'd. In his response he mentions fraud on overstock.com -- where the current seller admittedly tried to sell this Mantle with the same PSA cert. number.
So the winner of this auction knows it's the same ol' scam, but still bids and wins? Huh?
I don't think the winner of the auction knows for certain it's a fraud. I wouldn't be shocked if Flash Gordon gave them a story about how his scan was stolen, and he had the actual card, and the buyer got greedy thinking they were going to steal it from him. Something tells me it'll take someone warning them that this auction is also a scam, and I'm sure plenty of people have already done that.
Looks like our boy is a wana be criminal who broguht his scam to the wrong place. I guess they don't have Don West 101 at IU. I am sure some of you guys will be pushing to get this guy caught, hopefully he won't have a chance to rip anyone ever again. Looks like he didn't even get a chance to become a good scam artist lol.
I get the feeling that this guy was trying to protect himself by bidding with the thomascad4vrv ID, and didn't think anyone else would bid, let alone have there be a bid sniper out there on the card (last bid came during the last 20 seconds of the auction). Whoops! Only bad things can come from this situation.
i have bought 6 mantles in last three weeks. not everyone out there is a con. if this is a nother no big deal. 2 neg on same card would not bother me any way. it gives me something to do.
Why someone would buy 6 Mantles in 2 weeks is beyond me. Maybe the fact that he's gone through that much coin so quickly has cost him the ability to capitalize and realize that "a nother" is in fact one word.
mudflap, you're a student -- how do these people even get INTO college, much less use the campus Internet account to run scams on eBay? From their writing, they seem barely capable of putting their shoes on the correct feet.
He emailed me and said that he has won all 4 auctions from this guy. The others were private auctions. 2 questions. Why were the other 3 auctions from our boy private and this one was not? 2) Why would the same bidder keep coming back? Maybe another trail to follow grasshoppers.

One suggestion: The repeat buyer is a campus buddy, if not the guy himself using a different account. When he gets nailed and he realizes it's not safe to follow through on ripping off a real buyer, the other account steps in and wins the bid. Then he starts again. Sometimes eBay boots him off, so he gets a new ID. It barely slows him down. He's back with the same lame scam the next day, hoping that eventually his auction will not be noticed by anybody smart and he'll get that big payoff.
Based on the response posted on here that the winning bidder gave, I have little doubt that it is our amatuer confidence man himself. It is highly likely that a random bidder could mimic his typing grammar to that degree. I don't know exactly what Flash is trying to brew up here, perhaps it's all part of a delusional Grand-Master-Plan of some sort that he has concocted.
<< <i>Some more Mantles from Southern Indiana. There is just no way to read through the entire auction description without laughing. >>
gabe must be one of those "idiot savant" types in college.. he said he grossed 1.5 mil at age 15.. he's probably a genius on everything but a few subjects, most notably lacking is common sense.. (and of course, spelling)..
From a relatively harmless (and hilarious) grading service to outright scams on eBay? Our wayward lad is moving up in the world.
We could show his third-grade literacy level (as evidenced by his listings and his conversations here) to his college profs at Indiana U. That might make them angrier than the scams.
Which one is he in the picture above? My money's on the far-left guy who's thinking about the next kegger.
Looking back through my email, the initial response I got from the seller of this 1952T Mantle PSA 8 came from g.gordon@indiana.edu, who said he's tried to sell this card previously on eBay and on Overstock.com. Subsequent replies on the same subject came from bigpimpiin222@yahoo.com.
The circle is complete: NGS > mlhookup > Gabe Gordon > bigcollector222 > Mantle scams > Gabe Gordon.
Maybe he wouldn't have to keep relisting his PSA 8 Mantle rookie if he'd crack it out and put it in an NGS holder. He'd have to trim it down to make it fit, like that Clemente. Just an idea, Gordy. Got to give that card some legitimacy so it doesn't keep selling for 20% of its value.
I still say the Indiana U admissions officer should be fired.
I'm not a financial whiz by any stretch, and I have no idea how it would work, but I've long wondered if these scam auctions that get hammered at big dollar amounts where the buyer seems as bogus as the seller is not some sort of sophisticated money laundering or tax dodge scheme. What results is a seeming transaction, publicly documented, where product and money has changed hands. I don't know - just a thought....

<<< Ok, this is 1978 topps produced 1977 Strikeout leaders featuring hall of famer Nolan Ryan and Phil Niekro. This card has been professionally graded by ngsgrading.com a 3.7 A- mint. This is the equivilent of a PSA 9, this card has perfect color, great centering, no wear tobe seen. Its a near flawless card.Serial number on this one is #00000019 Great additon for any Ryan collector. email me with any questions on the card Good Luck! >>>
This is our boy's latest auction. Joe Orlando may want to take note of this latest grading system rage which is sweeping the country. The old PSA grading numbering system is hereby rendered obsolete. Card grades will now be graded like school test scores for instance this card received an A-. I just sent in a very large submission of t-206's, 1933 Goudeys, 1952 Topps including a Mantle and also some Old Judge cards to NGS and am expecting to get B's or B+'s. I'm hoping a few of the cards receive an A, and my goodness wouldn't it be nice to receive an A+ from NGS.
Surprise, surprise. The guy selling this PSA 8 Mantle rookie, young Master G.G. of Indiana U, aka bigcollector222, mlhookup, etc., is booted off eBay -- for the third time on this card alone.
And at this precise moment in time, 9:55 a.m. ET on Nov. 20, 2004, there are no PSA 1952 Topps Mantles on eBay. Mark it on your calendar, for this moment may never come again.
(There are, however, the usual assortment of raw reprints being sold as the real thing and some kitchen-table graded '52 Bowman Mantles)
I had posted this on another thread and am reposting it here out of respect for the untimely demise of Gabe Gordon:
<<< Actually Roy Hobbs was the greatest player of all time. Although he only played one season because of repercussions from an unfortunate incident at a young age, his home run total and batting average was absolutely phenomenal. He led his team from being a last place team to getting into the World Series - in just one season! Because of his supreme greatness there has not been much written about him so as not to trivialize all other baseball players, but his story was well told in the movie documentary "The Natural." I own his rookie baseball card in PSA Gem Mint 10 and was told by baseball card expert Gabe Gordon that it is the rarest and most valuable of all baseball cards. I still want to improve on the card and therefore broke it out of the PSA holder and am submitting it to NGS grading hoping to receive an NGS grade of A+ to further increase its value. >>>
Gabe - We are going to miss you buddy. Sort of in the same way as one misses a kidney stone.

Hey, Gabe, what about my rookie cards of Nuke LaLoosh, Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn, and Morris Buttermaker? I thought you said THOSE were the three most valuable cards ever!!! Now are you going to tell me that my Jimmy Dugan is worthless, too?
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

"Crash" Davis is better than all those guys , his NGS A graded card should hit 6 figures easily (or so I was told ).
I don't know what the heck is going on between movie dudes, real players, Santa, etc.....I just want to know if Stone is going to send me the Vegomatic he promised. F Gabe.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

I'll be even more impressed if he comes back and owns up to it now that he's been id'd.
Good work, guys.

It ended with a bid of $10,100. Now let's see what happens.
