Dueling Mantles....

Oh, just to be clear, in addition to your spelling, so far we've listed the following problems with your startup company (and this is just from the two cards posted in this thread)

    Flip is outside the slab
    Grading trimmed cards
    Clear Overgrading
Stuffing 1956 cards into slabs that are too small for them
Flips that are damaged by the "company"
Company grades the owner's cards with little concern for accuracy
Company admits it's card graded a 4 would only be a PSA 3

If you like, I'll keep editing this post to keep the running tab up to date.
  • there is no scrapes on the hat that is on the holder. this is atleast a psa 3 card.
so the grade was maybe one higher than it should be.

    thanks for the tips

  • jrdolanjrdolan Posts: 2,549 ✭✭
again jrdolan doesnt even know what he is laughing at, thats a psa 3 card atleast I have seen psa 3 or 4s that look worse than that, and especially gai or pgs or sgc.

jrdolan knows what he's laughing at ... and also thinks your "graders" should stop skipping class and pretending they are more than one person with some stickers and a web site. This hobby is fun, exhilarating, intoxicating, obsessive, addictive. This NGS thing, while humorous, is keeping you from the pleasure that is to be found in this hobby.

Edited to remove some silly (but true) stuff I wrote when I was tired, ticked off about something else, and not feeling very tolerant toward snotty kids who lie for fun. I'm glad the board lets us edit.
  • ugh first, most of those problems have already been corrected and a company grading one higher another company isnt wrong either.
and it doesnt mean it was over graded if that mantle was in a 8 or 9 holder or even a 6 or7 then we got something to talk about

    thanks

  • i have been a collector, but i enjoy trying to run business whether successful or unsuccessful, its a learning experience.

and sorry to say i do have more than one grader, and while they have overgraded according to you by one grade, or even if they graded a trimmed card that sneaked by.psa, gai, sgc have graded trimmed cards probably thousands of them, but they dont make it a habit and is a very small percentage to the total amount they have graded such as PRO

    thanks

If I buy the Clemente that's on ebay and it doesn't cross to a PSA 5, will you buy the card back from me for the SMR of a PSA 5?

I think they have you on this one - a "promotional item" is a reflection of everything the prospective company stands for - in this case your main product is "grading" and the "packaging" is very important - of course along with customer satisfaction. You could have avoided this potentially poor first impression by taking inexpensive cards and presenting them in this fashion:

    image

This is what PSA handed out to prospective clients at the national in the very early 90's to promote their service.

This guy just doesn't know when to stop. Even when presented with all the facts, he continues to rail against our collective common sense. Back here in Boston, the Big Dig could use a PR guy like you tight now.
  • that mantle was not intended to be as a sample, and wasnt even really suppose tobe on the site except to test it.

    thanks for your input.

    Bigcollector222 quote from this thread:

<< <i>see, i mean this is what i am talking about i am just trying to get an accurate information from you, and you go off calling me a scammer with no information. never said i was a millionaire, never said this was going tobe a successful business, just something to try >>

    Bigcollector222 quote from This Thread

<< <i>As far as my business's my first business was started at 15, called Computer Fever I grossed over 1.5 million dollars in the first year alone with a 15 percent profit margin you can do the math, a heck of alot better than any of you were doing while you were 15, so you can insult my english all you want, but as far as business sense and coming up with ideas none of you are any better than i am. >>

Awwwww, sookie sookie. I promise you that you are dealing with people here with too much time on our hands. You can make fun of me all you want for being a nerd, but me and my 500 nerd friends here on this board will laugh you back into the cool kid hole that you came out of. It's like the lunchroom in second grade, only reversed - the smart people who do the homework actually have the power.

BTW - this guy is not Tinas/MLHookup - that guy was out of NY state, this guy is out of Indiana, the "Armpit of America"
  • well mudflap if that little waste of time was to prove somehow i said I was a millionaire, your just flat embarrassing yourself, if you would of looked i said i had a business that GROSSED 1.5million huge difference, because unless your stealing your product most business's dont run on a 100 percent profit margin as I went on to say.

so that little post was just a waste of space.

    thanks though

This same scan, same PSA cert. #05004697, was used in a scam auction that was up for 17 hours on Nov. 8. That seller, who had zero feedback but still got bids up to $10,000, was booted from eBay the same day.

The next day, the card was put up again by the seller currently under discussion (card location: Southern Indiana). It's either the same scammer who was too lazy even to steal a different scan, or a different scammer who stole a scan that was already stolen. Kinda funny coincidence that one scammer got booted, then the same card popped up the next day.

You know, if scammers are coming here to figure out how not to look like scammers, they sure aren't learning anything.

If the card was not an exemplar and not a sample but a "test" - what does that mean? If I am testing something, no one will ever see it since I wouldn't want them to form an opinion if I flop. This is "out there" for us to view - it is only natural for people to form an opinion of your workmanship and come to conclusions about the ability of your group to perform.
Now, have you got something that is worthy of an educated opinion? What is your impression of a card that has definitely been trimmed and is holdered by a company as acceptable and worthy of resale?
    Just some points to ponder...

So, I'm dying to know what happened to this business:

    A. I sold it for a billion dollars - Hi, I'm Mark Cuban
    B. Based on a 15% profit margin on $1.5 million gross revenue in year one, the valuation of my business was approximately $1.75 million; I sold it, then blew all the proceeds on PRO and GEM 10 Mantle rookies
    C. My customers figured out I was scamming them and I grossed $0 in year 2
    D. I went out the back as the police were coming in the front
    E. I got tired of my employees laughing at my English and I ran home and cried
    F. I made the whole thing up
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Sorry to say that the recent demise of our head grader has left a hole in the staff!
We are taking applications - if anyone is wondering how we train out graders:

<< <i>all prospective graders are put through a very rigorous training and indoctrination program. It starts with strapping them into chairs and forcing them to watch 36 straight hours of Oprah Winfrey and Wheel of Fortune.

The final test involves putting them in a room with ten cards and ten marbles...they are instructed to put the ten marbles in their mouth....then they grade a card...each time they successfully grade a card and pass, they can spit a marble out...when they have successfully graded all the cards and have totally lost all their marbles, they are an NGS Certified Grader! >>

  • My gosh, what an absolute pleasure to bump into this thread on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon!

    It's utterly hilarious!

Here's what I've deduced so far:

    1. I'd estimate '222' to be no older than 17 or 18 years old, at most. If he is, and he spells/speaks/rambles the way he does.....time to get back to school.

    2. The 'NGS Graded' cards are in those new snap-tite 'lock in place' holders.

    3. A big return address label, with some official looking borders and numbers is a "Grading Label"

    4. '222' HAS to be a kid, because even the dumbest adult in the universe would know to stop defending the indefensible, and high-tail it the heck out of this board.......Caught is caught.

    5. That '69 Mantle, graded VG-EX? By who, Hellen Keller?

    6. That '56 Clemente, graded EX. Try graded EXACTO, like the knife company. Freaking 30 % of the card is missing.

    7. '222' grossed 1.5 million dollars one year? Right, and giraffes have 9 legs.

    and

    8. Don't worry too much about '222', he'll get bored with it all soon enough and fly, fly away...

Very, very entertaining guy though. I think he has a future on a used car lot, hawking 1993 Yugos. He should have no problem getting a job, not with that 1.5 million thing on his resume.

    Like I said....hilarious!

Looks like he trimmed the bottom of the card just to get it to fit into the card holder, but didn't trim the edge, causing it to jut out from under the recess. What is sad is that I actually kind of like those holders (not as much as the new ultra-pro no screw holder, but they are still nice). What a joke. My guess is that he only listed the stolen image 1952 Mantle in an effort to promote their other garbage cards, and was planning on ending the auction early in any case. They just got nailed by the super-sleuths here (nice work guys!) and by another person attemping a straight-out scam on the card.

And good god man, get a dictionary.

And dont bother picking on me sonny, I've actually done things in my life, as have the other people on this board. You should be aasking for advice, not defending yourself, because you don't have a shred of credibility.

And dude........grading labels are like underwear, they go on the inside big guy.

NGS must stand for "No G--damn Sense" if that '56 Clemente was sliced up so it would fit in the modern holder. That card (assuming it's not a reprint) actually had some character and value before the surgery, even if it was a Poor/Fair specimen. Now it's worthless. This is the work of his staff of professional graders? Nah, like I said, this is one kid with some stickers, some holders and a copy of "How to Build A Web Site for Dummies."

Whoever said this kid and the guy pretending to own the Mantle rookie are the same person, I'm starting to believe it. The writing style and literacy level are about the same here and in the emails the scammer has sent to me. If that's true, or if bigcollector222 is connected in some way to this seller through the NGS scam, he should smarten up before the auction completes. eBay, IFCC, and the top bidders are all aware of what's going on with documentation of the previous attempted scam using these stolen pics.

If I was the scammer, I wouldn't trust any new bid that comes in at this point, or dare to cash any check sent to me. I wouldn't even dare go to the PO box to pick it up. Why this auction is still running is a mystery.

Three hours to go and the auction is still up and at over $9,000.

Hey scammer - I'm sure you are still looking at this thread. Be best advised that if you go through with this auction you'll be looking at probably getting kicked out of school along with a felony conviction that will haunt you the rest of your life. Along with the conviction, the judge will most certainly force you to pay back the money anyway. The choice is yours!
