I'm a young fellow, so I figure I can store some for 20-25 years and tone them nicely. Who can sell me folder that will tone some coins for me over the next couple of decades?????

  • I use Wayte Raymond Boards, in all demoniations, including type, the dollar boards are the hardest to find.

dunno about other collectors experiences, but anytime i go to my local coin club meeting, there's ALWAYS someone w/ a bunch of used albums for sale, & these are ideal for toning coins.

    Don't bother.
I've been collecting since 1957. Fads come and fads go. This toned coin thing is just the latest fad. It'll go away too, but many are the coins that'll be forever ruined by people trying to tone them, before it goes away.
Better you should learn a little about coins and the minting process and try to become a genuine numismatist.

lathmach, you're as old as methusela!

I have a lot of Morgans, and I thought I would fill an album and let it sit. I would never consider trying to tone all of them, just 40-50 of them. Are WR's the best way to do this?

Yeah, and 25 years ago I thought cameo Franklins were a fad. I guess some fads last longer than others. image

Older Whitman folders do a nice job on Roosevelts.

Using a coin board to tone coins takes a long time, and it’s unpredictable. You can give it a try, but it might take 20 years AND you will need to monitor the process.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Those are some very informative responses. I just got a couple of Morgan pages offered to me! Thanks!

I probably should have phrased the question better, like:

For you long time collectors, if you could go back 20-30 years, what would you do to help your coins develop attractive natural toning?

Looks like I got some good responses in spite of my poorly worded question.

  • If you look on Ebay you will usually find some old Wayte Raymond folders and others which MAY tone coins nicely over a period of time.
