I see a couple of marks that would make this piece not worth grading. It would probably get an MS-67 or so, but these coins come nice, especially the 1/10 ounce gold pieces which don't weigh much and therefore are not prone to marks.

Generally US bullion gold is not worth grading unless it pulls an MS-69 or 70. Even the MS-69 is not really worth the expense.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Thanx for the input. How about this $10 piece?

Grading these bullion coins is not a particularly productive exercise. They are produced and handled such that they are all nearly perfect. There is a segment of collectors who put together Registry sets of these abd really do care about the grade. Most collectors would rather spend time learning to grade an 1889 $5 (or something else) than the 1999 $5.

    Good luck,

    As stated,
please do not waste money grading bullion coins???
There is absolutely no reason too
  • Afraid you wont get much sympathy around these parts for modern gold bullion.

  • rfogg, they are nice coins for your collection, and any gold collector would be happy to have them. But as the links I posted attest, there are a lot of high grade modern gold bullion and proof coins. Nice coins, to be sure, but not rare, and not worth paying the grading fees.

Let the bulk submitters, with their reduced grading fees, slab the modern gold.

  • All points taken and appreciated. I'll stick with the other stuff I find to post.
    Thanx.

Modern gold bullion is just that...bullion. BUT I've seen some really nicely "toned" pieces with pretty yellowish gold color. Many of these are slabbed and run at a higher premium that I'd pay but maybe you can pick up one that isn't slabbed for not much more than spot....
