Cameron, could you elaborate on the characteristics that would get her a 63, and what characteristics would give her the 30% chance of 64?
  • I'd go 64 for the GSA. The fields don't look to bad and if it's light scuffs on the cheek then it's a 64 to me.

    63. No major marks but lots of scuffiness. If the luster is booming then maybe 64. But my guess would be a solid 63.

64 because of the CC bump. Especially since images are also deceiving. Here is a PCGS 64. The face marks are highlighted by the lighting but aren't deep digs.

I would have to agree that the GSA CC's are graded quite a bit more liberally from what I've seen in holders. Personally, I think this coin could go either way depending on how the coin actually looks in hand. I don't think you will be able to get a better answser than the two options you've already given (63 or 64) from anyone who cannot see the coin in person.

I'll answer that....The TPGS give all CC-mint marked Morgans a grading bump. The reason being because CC-minted Morgans are dinged up and rougher looking as a whole than their P,D,S and O minted counterparts, so the TPGS are a little easier grade wise on the CC Morgans. Now watch how many people post that I am wrong.

I graded this one a low MS64. The cheek chatter is fairly light with very nice fields.

Might slab 64 on a good day. The weak strike could be an issue. The only severe ding is the one on the chin. A 63 has lots lots of dings. 83-CC in low grades are common so it's not going to get a bump for anything.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

My grade on this would be 63, but knowing how PCGS is grading CCs these days, 64 at PCGS.

NWCS posted an image of IMO what a typical 83 or 84 CC Morgan looks like in 4. Agree w Dog, one of these in 3 is typically a nasty-looking coin. The scuffing is light, except for the one mark Dog mentioned. If the strike was a bit better (more detail in the central breast feathers and on the hair over the ear), this coin IMO could make a 5, especially since the luster looks strong.

Heh, I always love it when such broad statements are made. ALL? I dunno about that. Yes they do get the bumps
many times but to make this as a "Given" is not good advice IMO.

Then when they grade the things as they should grade like any other Morgan people come on here saying
the grading service is "Tight" because they didn't automatically give the funky bump. image

Here's the reverse of mine so you can get an idea of its strike on the rev.
