Want A Little (Sweet) Revenge On PayPal?

Then receive money with no fee. Just give the sender your ABA # & bank account # & name of your bank (the EXACT same way you would give them the info if they were going to send you a bank wire). Then the sender quickly adds your account to their PayPal profile. They can then WITHDRAW to YOUR account. Before you say it - NO, they CANNOT take money from your account - the account has to be confirmed to do that. It's reall very simple AND safe. Heck, everyone you write a check to has the same info anyway as well. This is a great deal for repeat buyers as well as 1 timers. If their's a flaw in my thinking please let me know. image - NOTE: the Name (i.e. person) field on the withdraw money form is irrelavent. Only the bank info is pertinent.

You can also do THIS

You can't possibly be serious. First, that information can be used to rip you off. Second, a scheme like this would most likely get you booted from PayPal.
  • Interesting - Tex has a point. Unfortunately, after your customers do it once or twice, I'm afraid Paypal will catch on.

Eric, the info is on every check you write, so, if there was a way to "rip you off" using this info, it would already be going on.

edited to add: Tex, when I receive a wire, it MUST have the name correctly or the wire gets kicked back. This could put a damper on your "fun". image
  • my3cents: I agree about the name needing to be exact on a wire but I KNOW FOR A FACT that the person's name is NOT relavent for PayPal. ONLY the bank name, ABA, & account #.

Eric: As to the ripoff potential - I disagree. You can certainly do it with at least some of the people you trust anyway. As I said before, the info is no different than that which you would give if receiving a bank wire OR simply writing someone a check. Even if someone did print up fake checks on your account and then commit forgery you would be protected anyway under banking laws.

As to getting booted from PayPal. I guess you might be right there if they saw that over & over again. Or at least they'd warn you at first.

I guess to summarize, you might consider employing this on a limited basis - but even a little bit goes to the "revenge" thing image

What has PayPal done to you that you want revenge?

    Joe.
  • Hi Uncle Joe,

Short answer - NOTHING. I personally LOVE PayPal. I just think it's so funny how many times those around here bash them to death. I've never had a problem with them in OVER 4 years and $100,000 sent and received. image

"Sweet Revenge" doesn't sound like you LOVE them that much.

  • Cameron,

The title of the thread is a QUESTION. I'm not saying I PERSONALLY want (any type of) "revenge" but you know that many here do. Perhaps one might feel a little better beating them at their own game a time or two (i.e. cathartic for those that DO have a chip on their shoulder about PayPal) . image

RBinTex: I tested your theory regarding using the credit card and having the other paypaler deny the funds and it did not work.

Paypal does it the right way. They send the funds back to the sender's credit card not add to the sender's paypal funds.

Of course, we are talking about personal paypal accounts that have no fees.

  • oreville,

My PayPal account is a business account. The person I sent to was a personal one. The refused payment did get added to my balance. I honestly don't know if it was a glitch that 1 time or the fact that my account was a busuness account had anything to do with it. image
