the liberty nickel is a great natural toned coin with a fingerprint and the blue toning on the right side of the coin from an envelope/mint tissue then taken out of the envelope and put pushed into an album and you can see the fingerprint on the cheek and toned this way on the left side of the coin my guess is that the coin was pushed in at an angle into the album and the coin technically is not a great coin but the toning is great the blue envelope toning took decades along with the album toning which took decades too
the 1837 half dollar is for me just based on a photo an AT market acceptable toned coin as the coin was dipped/cynaidie blast white decades ago and then retoned quickly retoned not by decades but weeks/ a few years but i need to see the coin in person sight seen to be sure
the lib nick i am sure of.............. the half i would need to look at the coin in person sight seen to be sure
I'll reserve judgement on the funky looking Liberty nickel. The half doesn't look right, at least from the image. My first instinct would be at but I would not be surprised at all to see it in an ngc or pcgs holder!
Michael raises some good points. My main problem with the nickel is the nasty fingerprint. I agree with his analysis of the coin.
I also have problems with the half. The rim toning per se is okay. Many Unc. 19th Century coins which were dipped have retoned in this way. I have a Capped Bust dime like this. However, the white area of the half looks sandblasted. It looks too dull, and has the telltale many very minute contact marks indicating that this coin was worked on in a major way.
