Personally, I'm on a tight budget, so I'm using a Fuji A210 I bought for well under $200 and getting decent results. If you have more to spend you can do much better, I'm sure. Just search the archives for threads on digital cameras, you can probably find several dozen choices.

I have a recently acquired olympus c-5060 and LOVE It!

I can take pics for coins in just a minute or 2 and can take 2 pics on one screen! such as this one!

It is also a Fantastic camera for "family" use!!!! The prints (if you take the card somewhere turn out just as nice as the images!)

  • I swear by Canon. I use an A70 although the A80 is now out.
  • Try the search feature. There are tons of threads on which camera is the best.

  • I really like using my new Pentax Optio s40i as it ins really small, takes excellent pictures, and has a macro, super macro feature already built in. It takes great pictures of Proof Coins, bringing out almost all the luster and shinyness.
My other camera is a Sony Mavica CD250, but I had to buy the macro lenses separately.

I'm also on a budget, and I use the A210's little brother, the A205. They are both exactly the same, except that the A210 is a 3.2 Megapixel and the A205 is a 2.0 Megapixel...

  • Determine your price range then buy a Canon, Nikon, or Olympus with a macro capability. All are excellent and unless you're a photo geek (like me), you won't notice the subtle differences in the features from each.

From what I've seen Nikkon is best. I will need a new one before the year is out, and that's my #1 choice.

  • i don't know what your budget is, but the canon s series is great. the s500 is the new one, but the s400 and s410 are still available. i have the s400 and i absolutely love it.

I recently bought a Fuji S3100 (6x optical zoom; 4 megapixel) ... and outstanding camera for macro's, and under $300. For a few dollars more they have a 4000 series (10x optical zoom).

These are made in Germany, not Japan as I would expect by the brand name. This makes no difference of course, but I wondered which company was bought out that now is part of Fuji (if that's the case). Excellent enginneering and production.
