Thanks! I feel much better since this thing is only 135 mph instead of 160 mph like it was yesterday. I still have power so........ Here's one for Cameron Keifer & Conder101: I call it Sample Slab in a Hurricane. Yeah I'm bored, ok.

Good luck Dog. If you see my brother Ken flying around in the breeze, pluck him out and tell him to call. He's down there with you. Thank goodness oyur coins are slabbed. Now we can really see if they are hurricane proof! Got my fingers crossed! Good luck again. Ray
You only live life once, enjoy it like it's your last day. It just MIGHT be!
Wind's blowing really hard and the lights are flashing really bad. Probably a tree limb bumping the line somewhere. Power be out before long. I hear stuff banging around out side but my windows are boarded up & I can't see what it is.

Geez, Dog, I hope you made the right choice in staying. Be safe, man.

Good luck....I remember when Opal blew through Navarre, there was nothing left of my neighbor's 5 bedroom beach house except one pole sticking out of the ground.
Thanks again for the good words everybody! Lights done dimmed 3 times real bad & I thought they weren't coming back. Starting to sound like a freight train is outside. Tin is slaming up & down on my barn roof, that's what I heard a while ago. Got my candles ready. If don't post a little later then I'm in the dark & catch yall whenever.

My family usually summers on Dauphin Island, south of Mobile. My wife just told me that according to the news, the island is receiving 50-foot waves! I think she meant 50 mph winds. Fifty-foot waves would be way over the highest elevation and Mobile is just getting winds about that speed.
Does anyone else from the NW find it weird that it becomes national news when a storm brings 30 ft seas, 100+ MPH wind if it hits the eastern/gulf coast ? That is a typical Nov-Feb storm on the Oregon coast. When the seas hit 60 Ft. and the wind over 100 it may make the local news and never national. Then again our coast is rock for the exact above mentioned factors.

Thanks for the info, Tassa! Those waves must be out in deeper water, though. When I posted my earlier note, the waves at the island were 16 ft. and over at Gulf Shores about 12 ft. About half an hour ago, they reported waves of up to 30 feet at Dauphin. Pretty much all of the island ought to be awash at that. I believe the max elevation is in the 25-30 ft. range. All those beach houses are going to be gone (again) and probably most of the "inland" homes that retirees have been building all over the place. I wonder if the bridge is going to be destroyed again?

How are the winds up in B'ham, Tassa? >>
It's just a little breezy here now. They're predicting sustained winds of 30-45 miles an hour in the morning and possible sustained winds up to 80 mph with higher gusts later in the day. Hopefully, there won't be much property damage around here, but there will likely be some trees and power lines down.
If you get 80 mph winds, believe me, there will be property damage! Normally if they go overland that far, they diminish to a tropical storm, but this one is so darn big, y'all will likely get a lot of rain dumped on you. I understand the eye is something like 40 miles across.

I'll second that. Isabel made landfall at Ocracoke Island NC and had gone 120 miles over land before it went right over us west of Richmond, and still caused catastrophic damage. For those of you 50-100 miles inland, you need to prepare and take precautions.
I'm going to be afraid to turn on the TV in the morning, this thing appears to be really tearing up the Alabama and west Florida coast. I sure hope Dog is in a safe place, it made landfall as a Cat 4 hurricane.
I talked to Dog97 this evening around 9:00 pm - he had just lost power and the storm was intensifying where he was at but he and his daughter were doing well. Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned
