  • I have a U.S. Type set housed in a Dansco album --- no gold, too expensive for me. I also collect World coins by type --- but mainly British and Canadian.

  • Mine is a combination of Dansco and slabbed coins, so I can't vote

  • It might be fun to do one. I will think about it.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes!

Been working on mine for 6-7 years. I'm only missing the Seated Liberty Dollars, the Reeded edge Capped Bust Half, and a Seated Liberty Dime w/ arrows (1853-55). That and about all the gold coins. But I do have me an Indian Head Quarter Eagle.

I'm working on 3 different type sets:
Coin type set #1 - I'm trying to get the best I can afford.
Coin type set #2 - Let's just call this my Bradick special. As long as you can see the date, it's in.
Currency type set - I'm working on a $1 bill type set.

    See my sig line.

I'm just starting a Dansco 7070. I haven't decided about gold yet. I already have the coins, but gold is the only thing I don't like cracking out of their slabs, as I know they will have to be reslabbed to sell. Any thoughts on whether I should get the gold page for the album, or just keep the coins slabbed?
  • If you're looking for resale, then keep the gold slabbed. If you want to complete the album and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, then get the hammer outimage

    get the hammer out

better to use a bench vice. the hammer is for neanderthals. image

I'd go ahead and crack the gold if they're MS62 or lower, leave slabbed if MS63 or higher.

edit: oh, and I'm working on both the Dansco 7070 and the Whitman 2-volume type set (the latter includes more types, including the early copper, the flowing hair and small eagle silver, all 3 types of 3 cent silvers, the 1873-4 with arrows silver, and more!)

  • My life long goal is to complete the 1792 to current type set, major varieties. We'll see if I can pull it off, financial constraints being the interesting challenge.

I have a type set, in general, consisting of raw and slabbed. But I am buying more slabbed ones to upgrade the set.

There was no option for multiple type sets.

1 Dansco 7070 type set with gold
1 Dansco 7070 type set without gold
1 set of Library of Coins type set
1 type set made out of coins in 2X2s

I guess it goes to say that I like type sets.

But those pale compared to the date and mintmark sets I'm working on.

    Large sets
Flying eagles/IHCs (need one to complete - '56)
    Linolns 09 - (need one to complete - 22plain)
Lincoln memorials (need lots to complete)
19th century set (need lots to complete)
    Lib head nickels (complete)
Buffalo nicks (need one to complete 18/7d)
Jeff nickels (need 5 to complete)
Barber dimes (complete - there is no 94s hole)
    Merc dimes (complete)
    Roosies (need 4 to complete)
    Barber quarters (complete)
SLQs (need one to complete 16)
    Washingtons (complete)
State quarters (as complete as possible at this time)
    Barber Halves (complete)
    Franklins (complete)
    Kennedys (complete as possible)
    Morgans (need lots to complete)
    Peace (complete)
    Ikes (complete)
    SBA (complete)
    Sacs (complete as possible)

I have a tough time confining myself to one set.

Yeah... mine is about 1/3 slabbed, 2/3 2x2's & such. I'm trying to do the contents of the 7070 with gold, still hemming and hawing about buying the album and cracking everything out. Last I checked I'm about 65 coins along in terms of raw hole-filling, but about 20 of those are Good to Fine upgrade candidates left over from when I was a kid.

  • What about if you're doing two different type sets?

I'm doing a circulated Dansco and a slabbed type set.

to live outside the law, you must be honest ---- bd
  • Some type coins in slabs, Eagle holders and 2x2s. But, my Dansco 7070 is due to arrive tomorrow from Brent-Krueger. I probably won't do gold for now but can always add the page later.
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
  • I'm working on a Dansco 7070. I'll be buying the gold page soon...and maybe I'll even buy some gold coins too. image

I would love to see pics of all of these type sets, especially the ones in Dansco albums. Any takers?

  • Funny thing is, even after doing major types, I find myself picking up some subtypes. For example, I picked up the open wreath / closed wreath varieties of the Type 1 gold $1 because I thought that was an interesting difference. Who knows maybe I'll just never stop!

  • I would LOVE to have the time and funds to do an 'Eliasberg' Complete US Coin Type Set also including all die varieties - I'm obsessive/compulsive that way, as a kid collecting baseball cards I always thought it would be really cool to have 1 of every baseball card ever made (actually, i'm even more sick, I wanted 2 of every card ever made, 1 set as printed, 1 set signed :coolimage.

However, until Bill Gates adopts me, I'll be working on a life long 1792-date 1 coin per 'type', including colonials and lots of varieties where feasible. Right now I have about 20% of my list done - mostly 20th century and a handful of gold coins. 90% of my coins are in slabs, I'm hoarding the raw stuff to do a mass submission someday.
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.

    Need more $$$ for coins?

I have a 20th Century Type Set in a Capital Plastics board. It needs some work, but I'll do that later on.

Started mine last week. Having lots of fun so far. Have filled 42 holes out of 76, 34 left to go. Going for a variety pack (circulated, mint state and proof coins, toned coins, blast white coins, cameo coins and non cameo coins) to accomplish a varied, funky, eclectic look. Lots of fun putting it together.

I've been working on a type set for the last 35+ years. The only major type I don't have in the copper, nickel and silver coins is the 1796-7 half dollar. It's always been too expensive for me.

According to the NGC registry, my gold type is 73% complete. Pushing it beyound that is going to be challenge. The Small eagle coins and the rare stuff from the 1820s and early 1830s is REALLY pricy.

Mine is Dansco 7070 with gold, only lacking three coins for completion, but I'm also adding the moderns like statehood quarters and the new nickels as they become available.

I will get all of them slabbed by (hopefully) PCGS over the next several months. Then I just might start a "holed" set using the Dansco. Maybe a counterstamped set? I haven't decided yet.
