Sigh...no more coins for me anytime soon... :(

They say coin collecting is a hobby of disposable income. Well, I guess I will have to stop for awhile then! Although not unemployed, I have just lost one of my major sources of income leaving me with only a part-time adjunct teaching position at a college to live on. Sigh....this is frustrating. I guess I will have get a minimum wage job at a retail store to pay the bills or something... image

Any good suggestions? I know waitering gets you a lot of money but I am trying to stay away from really late night shifts. I guess retail at a mall will have to do.... image

Argh..I'm so depressed! image I try not to define myself by my career but it is hard knowing I have to pay my own health insurance with a minimum wage job. I feel smart ebough to wrap my mind around anything that is thrown at me but with my strange field being what it is, on paper I don't seem qualified to do too much in the REAl world...

Oh well...there are always a lot of people who have it a lot worse than I do, that's for sure....

Just rantin' and ravin'......

That's the kind of optimism that made this country great! I would suggest fast food.

Yea, it's tough to stop buying.

I had to let my subscription to the Gray Sheet lapse and stop buying coins back in 1978 when I resigned from my job and went back for an MBA full time. My present job had hit a dead end, and it was either leave and get the stupid degree that I really didn't need or sit in a hole and debit and credit for the rest of my life.

And since I'm the kind of collector who REALLY enjoys to look at what I own and seldom sells a coin out of my collection unless I've upgraded it, it really wasn't so bad. image

But things got better for me, and they will get better for you. image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • Put your graphic skills out for hire at www.scriptlance.com or at one of themany other job for hire websites.

I have posted several projects on these sights and have sometimes paid pretty good money for the work.

It's time to thin your collection while the market is still reasonably good. Don't wait for the real slowdown to hit. Put aside a few of your favorite coins and sell the rest.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • I've always been, and still am, an optimist. You seem to be intelligent and hold a part time job adjunct teaching position. OK, is there some further education that can take your career to the next step? Is there a different location where you could be fully employed doing something with your education? When I was young I moved to different states... And you can still look for coins in change and/or in flea markets/estate auctions and so forth. The important thing is to keep a positive mental attitude.
  • If there are any call centers in your area, might try to apply for them. Call centers in Shreveport pay $9-$11 an hour and all you have to do is talk on the phone and navigate a computer all day. That's what I'm doing atm.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

  • Find yourself a pizzaria or chicken joint that hires delivery drivers under the table. You won't get much per hour, but the tips can be great if you find the right neighborhood to do it in.
