Bag Lady Grade

OK These (I hope) are the first pictures I've posted. Finally got a camera and figured out the posting process. Not the greatest photos but just for grins what does this old lady grade? Just a hint--its in a PCGS rattler. Made the reverse larger to show the die crack.

  • Too many marks to go MS-63 or higher, IMO. I think it graded MS-62.

    I think it's probably a 62 from the pics.

    60pl?
  • Guess this is a good example of how the Morgans in rattlers/old holders that will upgrade-- probably have already been submitted. In hand, this coin looks pretty decent, but I agree with most who posted that 63 is generous.

  • A followup question--is there an easier way to post the picture without having to create a message with attachments and then editing it to include the IMG line to show the photo(s)? Thanks, Bill

actually, i don't think ms-63 is particularly generous. it seems to be exactly the correct grade for the coin. ie. it's an example of an accurately graded coin.

I think MS63 is correct too. This coin appears to have a really good Strike, the hair over liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers just jump right out at me. The Luster is very very nice. You did a great job capturing it in your image. There may be a lot of bag marks on the coin, but with the luster, strike and over all eye appeal of the coin, I would give it a MS63 for sure.

    Nice coin and nice images.

    Edited to add...

I took another look at the full slab pic you posted as well I still think at least an MS63, but now I have a question. Are those really contact/bag marks on Miss Liberty's cheek or are they just breaks in the frost??

  • Dorkkarl and jhar--I just got this Morgan and guess I'm not accustomed to seeing my coins in such a large format with every imperfection magnified. I was in total agreement with the grade when I bought it and before I took the pictures. The coin looks very nice in hand--and I looked again at the cheek at your suggestion, Jhar, --it is breaks in the frost. Thanks for the compliment on capturing the luster--figure the pics are too bad for a first try.

Nice coin! However it's one 1st gen holdered coin that I would leave "as is".
  • I have no intention of messing with it. It's a nice looking Morgan, I got a good deal on it and it stays in my collection as is.
