Here's a very pretty 1883-CC PCGS MS-63 PL in a 1st Generation holder that I purchased yesterday -- nothing fancy but just a really pretty coin with white frosty devices producing some cameo effect contrasting with the PL surfaces!! image

Nice PL morgan. You must have quite a few PL's in the set by now.

    Thanks Cameron and Mark!!

Mark, I am making steady progress with my PL/DMPL Morgan Dollar Registry Set, but still have a long way to go with some very tough and pricey coins in my future.

However I enjoy the hunt for just the right coins!!

You know, Stuart flew off the handle when I poked fun at a statement he made in one of these threads. Seriously, since the auction ended yesterday, he still has not received the coin so he does not know what the coin actually looks like in person. That hasn't stopped him from playing with the images in photoshop. Here are the seller's images:

Now, this is a nice looking coin in a rattle holder, but it is not a DMPL. My problem with these threads of Stuart's is that he is manipulating the images of the coins before he even sees the coins in person!
  • Very nice Stuart - check the date real carefully some 83CC issues show pretty strong doubling on the date - what's the stuff at 12 O'Clock on the obverse?

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    < what's the stuff at 12 O'Clock on the obverse >

Frank: I'm not sure about what's at 12:00, however it looks like that side of the coin (12:00 Obv & 6:00 Rev) may have some minor rim damage, or rim flattening -- I can't tell if it's mint frost or a bit of a foreign substance that scratched the coin.

It look very nice for an MS-63, so perhaps that area net graded it down from 64 to 63...

Anablep: Thanks for your post and comment.

Eric: Thanks for posting additional photos of the coin for others to see. It's always a pleasure to read your informative and constructive posts. You are a very special piece of work... imageimageimageimageimage

Stuart, I've asked you this before, and I'll ask it again. What purpose are you trying to accomplish by taking pictures of a nice looking coin you bought, and tweaking them to look like something they are not? There is nothing nasty or vindictive here, but I just do not understand why you do this repeatedly.

    That's a high end 63 or a 64 someday a slab player will get it in a 64 holder.

It's truly a VERY nice 63 coin very high end 63

Eric: That's a fair question... I have found that many sellers have posted either overexposed (or underexposed) photos of their coins on their E-Bay auctions. Many of them are just not that advanced with their photography skills, and are rushed for time.

As a result, I can sometimes adjust either the brightness or contrast of their marginal images to see something about the coin that I could not identify in their original photo, to help me make a purchasing decision whether or not to buy. I generally use the "auto-balance" standard select feature in Microsoft Photo Editor.

I've had some pleasing and positive E-Bay purchasing results by doing this. These coins are not for sale, just for show.

As for the coins that I have sold via the Forum, I am pleased to say that I have 100% satisfied customers, and I appreciate their business!! image

But Stuart, my point is that you haven't even received the coin yet, so you have no idea what it looks like. The seller's images are excellent in my opinion, and show a PQ MS63PL. I just don't understand why you don't use the seller's image and wait until you can take an image of it yourself, where you have the coin in hand to compare to the image.

Eric: Why do you think that you are in a privileged position of authority to Police this forum, while others are trying to enjoy their leisure time visiting with one another?

For me participating in these forums is about fun and sharing with others. What is this about for you?

I suggest that you begin to learn how to make friends rather than continue to pile up enemies. It will serve you much better throughout your life.

It's free advice -- but it's good advice image

Anybody else around here got an opinion for my good buddy K6AZ??

Here's an update to this thread after receiving the coin and examining it...

I received this 1883-CC PCGS MS-63 PL Morgan Dollar today, and am extremely pleased with it. In my opinion the coin appears to be undergraded by a point as it appears to look more like an MS-64 then an MS-63.

The strongly mirrored fields are clean, with a liquid "watery" appearance that markedly contrasts with the cameo velvety snow white devices. If it were a proof it would be at least a cameo designation if not DCAM.

It's in an old Generation 1 "rattler" holder which was very conservatively graded. It's got the look of at least an MS-64 PL. image
