REAL Numismatic Axis of Evil

With deference to LM's poll, here's one that's a bit more rounded out...

So many to choose from, it's hard, as most deserve some recognition. I went for bottom feeding TPG's.

  • Due to its size alone, eBay deserves a prominent place on the list. Although there are some good deals on eBay, I would guess they have a higher scammed per day rate than anyone else on your list.

Isn't numeric grading the same thing as the Sheldon scale? As for that, while it's a devilish thing to learn, I think it works as a cloak against evil the better you understand it and can use if for yourself.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I added it on DHeath's recommendation -- just changed the name a bit to confuse the masses.

BTW, I think I know what *you* voted for image.

Mirabela, it's useful shorthand, but many times where a coin falls on the Sheldon scale has little to do with its desireability or attractiveness. It causes many collectors to focus on grade, rather than whether they like the coin. There must be at least 57 ways a coin can grade MS-64. image

I guess I don't need to tell anyone what I chose.
  • I agree with the comments about the Sheldon scale. It's really being abused lately. From bottom feeding graders like SGS slabbing coins with ridiculous grades, to coins with zero luster or that have been artificially toned being slabbed by the majors as MS. I think they've all adopted their own model of the Sheldon scale and it comes nowhere close to what many of us think it should be.

Definitely true, DHeath -- I've been coming to think of numeric grade as sort of like a baseline for finding market comps, like square footage on a house. Plenty of other factors to consider, but when real money is at stake I'd hate to be in the hobby 100+ years ago when there was just about no way to compare one transaction to another unless you yourself were a participant in thousands upon thousands of them. So I'm not going to spend my vote on the Sheldon scale. But I think you probably knew that anyhow.

    LordM-

Shouldn't I get three votes when naming the Axis of Evil? I mean, keeping with historical tradition and all.

Ya know, think about it......maybe the only reason North Korea got added to Bush's "axis of evil" was because he had to have three things in it. Maybe he started with Iran and Iraq and then his advisors told him he couldn't have an "axis of evil" with only two evildoers.

    I can't vote for only 1!!!!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I voted for ebay, not because it is evil in and of itself, but because it allows evil to operate and thrive. Ebay has brings us the likes of poe, the lower tier TPGs, Eric's nemesis, and the Florida connection (no offense to the honest people there), amongst other nefarious forces and rip-offs.

So many choices, but only one vote? I see eight entities that would get my vote!

I feel like a kid in a candy shop. Which one will I want. Hmmm. Maybe I will pick the one that is not only Evil but entertaining too.

Looks like Shop at Home. That is one of the funnies shows on Coin TV! Of course next to Home Shopping Network's Coin Sales.
