  • ICG does have a consencus grading but if every grader is more liberal on the grades for the modern series it doesn't help at all and a lot of MS-70's will come out.

Ok here is the reason for my question. HSN is selling an ICG MS70 2004 Silver Eagle for $79.95. I know that's gotta be way off what someone would resell it for. I was just wanting to know about how much. I wanted to get an idea too on how many MS70 SE that ICG has encapsulated too. I worry about new collectors seeing this stuff and buying coins from HSN for 2 to 3 times over retail then getting really burned when they turn around to sell this stuff on the "real" market. No wonder I have heard some say that coin dealers "rip people off", because Mr whistle britches on HSN said that the Coin he bought for $79.95 that he was told was worth as much as $495 is only worth $20 to 30 dollars.

About $15. ICG has flooded the marketplace with grossly inflated MS/PF70 moderns and has lost all credibility , this was a major contributing factor to them now being looked at as no more than raw coins.

Its really a shame, since their grading on silver dollars, gold, and type, is actually pretty good. Keith Love made a critical mistake and has lost all credibility. They could have gone very far, but now are a joke in the marketplace because of the modern MS/PF70 flood. I have seen ICG modern proof 70 DCAM with severe haze and marks.

As far as HSN/Coinvault, and realted demons, they are all part of the Numismatic Axis of Evil, along with ACG, and Littleton, NTC, and similar vermin.

This is one of their claims that I find really funny.

    The Top 3 Grading Servies

    1. PCGS
    2. NGC
    3. ICG imageimageimage

I think that's funny, but I bet ANACS wouldn't laugh

Don't really now if this applies but here is an example for the 1991-S Silver Eagle:

    PCGS PR69 DCAM purchased 08/22 for $75.00

    ICG PR70 DCAM purchased 08/22 for $89.50

Not really. His coin is dated 2004.

I recently went through about 300 Silver Eagles in original rolls (1987-1993 dates).
I very carefully selected the coins that I thought would grade MS69 or 70.
That turned out to be exactly 50 coins. I sent them to ICG for grading.
    I got 49 MS69s and one MS70. I sold them on eBay. I got $16-$30
each, depending upon the date. The one MS70 (1989) sold for $216.
All had no reserve and a $1 start bid.

I also recently bought a few PCGS MS69 US Platinum eagles on eBay.
I was not very impressed with them. I graded them MS68.
I got an ICG MS70 Platinum Eagle for less than it cost for the same coin
as a PCGS MS69. The ICG 70 was positively superior to the PCGS 69.
And this was my honest opinion after carefully inspecting both coins
    under my microscope.

Some may claim that ICG has "flooded" the market with MS/PR 70s.
I've seen coins that I didn't like in every type of holder known to man.
But it appears to me that PCGS is "flooding" the market with 69s.

Even when it comes to high-grade modern coins, I'll always buy the coin
(at the best price I can) and not the holder ! And if I can get the same quality
coin in a "second-tier" (ANACS or ICG) slab (or raw), then that's what I'm going to do.
