This guy got one hell of a deal on this bad boy bustie! I wonder if the buy it now price was an error on the sellers part?

That would be my guess. Auction was live for 38 minutes before it got picked off.

  • Yeah, he gets my nomination for the You Suck club. How much you want to bet the seller tries to back out?

Edit: I contacted the buyer and asked if he would keep me up to date as to whether the seller goes through with the sale or tries to weasel out of it.

Depending on several factors I would expect it to sell normally in the $500+ range.
  • Wow nice score for sure...

Had to be a listing error. No way will the seller follow through.

The seller has an 1856 FE listed. Very cool.

This seller has made this mistake before, and I can tell you from experience that he won't honor it.

Wish I could find one of those deals. Someone outbid me on a beautiful bust half I wanted. But I got them back, my counter-bid made them pay more. But I still wanted it! Just that it's now out of my comfortable price range.
  • Darn

I've been monitoring the BINs all day. Then I took a nap. From now on NO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!

An error...no way will this one go thru. I would guess the "Buy It Now" was supposed to be $850 and not $85.

  • Nice coin, I call it an XF-45. To me it was misgraded.
  • Just to update you all, the buyer hasn't posted feedback on this yet, so maybe it's a done deal?

Edit: Updated update. The seller, kirk$coins, HAS left positive feedback for the buyer, so maybe it did sell for that price.

  • You guys are all pathetic. You are mad you were asleep to try to rip someone off??? And you guys are calling a $500 gain A SCORE???? Get a life. Spend less time on EBAY, get a higher paying job, then dreaming of scamming some sucker on EBAY before he catches it. Save yourself the time, and put an add in the paper" Looking for old widows with coins from their dead husband. Will pay what EBAY seller-messups pay, and IN CASH!!!"

  • Um...actually I was thinking that a seller who had made such a mistake but followed through with shipping the item despite the error deserved to be commended. In no way was I inferring that sweet "screw the little old lady" deals were my hobby/goal when searching for coins on eBay.

    You guys are all pathetic.

Easy there lloydmincy.... I'm not sure I understand your need for this type of hostility! image
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • It was an obvious error. If I bought it and the seller wanted to back out I would not neg him. It's no different than if a dealer at a show misread the date and quoted a huge price gap.

    But why the hostility?
  • Sounds to me like someone didn't get to eat their post toasties today......image Maybe you can afford to pay top prices on certain coins, but, for the rest of us who like a good deal, not saying that the auction in mind was a good deal, nor should it have went through in the first place, but, the point is that as you say " get a higher paying job " Not all of us are blessed with rich mommies and daddies, some of us work for a living image leave the hostility out of this, I doubt anyone wants to hear it...

  • It's a good thing the seller keeps track of his auctions personally. If this had been a large company with underlings monitoring the auctions, there's a damn good chance this might have gotten shipped. That's why you grab BINs that are low. If it gets caught, you be gracious about it, if it doesn't you do a little happy dance. image

  • Sliderider:

"if it gets caught, you be gracious about it. If not, you do a happy dance". Well, my hostility comes from comments like this. To me this was an obvious error, but "most" of you were upset it wasnt YOU "trying" to basically steal it. Sliderider, your comment can compare to stealing a Snickers bar from 7-Eleven. If you "get caught", but if not, you SCORED. Some of you said, "I wish I could find a bargain like that". This is an obvious error, and to take this coin at its price is stealing, and you know it. This is not considered a bargain.

  • Lloydmincy--is a coin with a BIN 20% back of bid a bargain or a steal? How about 30% back? 40%? It would be helpful to me and probably others here if you could establish a legitimate bargain vs. steal line that we could all adhere to. I have personal standards which keep me from taking unfair advantage of others--but I'd like to make sure that they meet your criteria. A few years back I ordered a $60 copy of "Bust Half Fever" from a major dealer and received 2 copies by mistake. I returned the extra copy and allowed the seller to reimburse me for the postage--should I have refused? What was once clear has become sooo confusing!! I wish you luck in your collecting and hope you continue to pay top dollar ++.

I guess my cherrypicking activities are stealing! I guess all my hours and hours of studying varieties was a waste of time. I should have been studying on how to get a better paying job so I could out bid others but only at a fair price!
Big Tony from Texas! Cherrypicking fool!!!!!!
  • The distiction is pretty clear guys. If the seller didn't do thier homework and asked too low, no matter how low and you buy then good for you. If the seller accidentially punched in the wrong number and you tried to take advantage then thats not right. the hard part is knowing the difference. Obviously if the seller catches it and tries to back out it would be real foul to threaten a neg. On the other hand I find it kind of difficult to send a email asking them if they'd like to raise the price cause you didn't pay enough. Often it's a judgement call, in this case I think the error was obvious.

That's a ridiculous comparison. By definition, theft is not a consensual transaction.

A better comparison would be if the Snickers bar were marked at 50¢ when it is normally $1. You go to the clerk and ask if the price is correct, he either says yes and sells it to you, or he says no, it should be a dollar. The clerk made the decision and, in this case, had the seller chosen to complete the transaction, he also would have made the decision.

  • Russ, that is a much better example. I am usually HARSH when it comes down to threads like this, but I guess i just want to see what others feel is scoring vs. "stealing". It is interesting to note, I looked up this thread again, because of a new one against dealer anaconda on an incredible mark up of a coin he recently purchased, and kind of misleading the details of the coin being NT or AT.

  • Pennywise, I said get a higher paying job, not a freebie handout from mom or dad, which is similar to SCORING to make EASY MONEY. I have received NOTHING from anyone but myself, and will not get anything from mommie or daddie.

Knowing this seller, he probably comped the buyer very nicely to back out of the deal.

    Cheers,

    Bob
