My toned Peace $ Experiment -- Call me Dr. Frattlaw

Okay so I'd never done a coin on the window experiment. I picked up this slightly rim toned Peace $ at the Golden State show yesterday for $20. I know these types of holders can cause some really nice toning. So I figured I would try out the heat + humidity trick and leave it IN my window and see what happens. Every couple of months or so I'll post new pics to see if its "toning." Since the reverse is starting to tone, I'm going to leave it with the reverse facing the sun/elements.

And here's a pic of the window.

An admitted attorney and now an admitted coin doctor.image Michael, you really need to consult an Image Consultant.image

Although I find the experiment somewhat humorous, I look forward to seeing the progression.image

What does Mrs. Frattlaw think of having a coin in the window?

  • Im actually conducting a similar experiment as Dr. Frattlaw, I have placed several coins in by the window, wrapped in newspaper. These coins include a clad commem, silver roosie, wheat, proof jefferson, barber dime, ASE, and proof state quarter. Im going to take alook at them in six months to see what has happened, so far im at a week.

I've tossed a couple of recent SAEs into tissue paper and then into a yellow envelope. In just over 6 months, they are toning a nice light yellow/lite-brown color. I like it (kind of off golden).
However, I would not use newspaper....the ink bleeds into clothes and other things and I would be afraid of ink bleeding onto the coin...not really toning.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Try one of those old Whitman blue albums - the kind with the double acetate slides

    - give it oh, say about 15, maybe 20 years - you'll like the results imageimage

Actually the window is closed. It's only open in the pic for demonstration purposes. imageimage

I'm thinking the toning will start creeping from the rim towards the centers.

    We'll see.

  • Why not leave it on the dash of your car, well a coin that is not slabbed anyway.
