opinions on this Morgan??? E-bay

Just shopping and came across this one. Althought the coin appears chatter-free, it seems to me that with all the marks/dings on the reverse edge, this one would have a hard time making 62 or 63. Your opinions?

  • I'm not the best grader by far, but I think it would go 62 or 63 but not 67 as he advertises it as.

    Beautiful coin IMO

IMO, if it's not whizzed, it looks like an easy 65+... but I'm left wondering why it's not in plastic

Makes you wonder why it's not Slabbed if it "LOOKS MS67*" Why risk selling it raw and only recieving a fraction of what it's worth if Slabbed?
    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

I agree with Jeremy.......the only question I need to move on is "Why is that coin which looks lovely in the image not in plastic?" That image is MS66. I'm betting the image and/or the coin has been doctored. Note "All Sales Are Final" For me this auction screams...."RUN, FOREST, RUN"

The seller is a notorious over-grader be advised.

    Feedback:
This coin was not MS66 plus, not even close, bad advertising!

  • ah - thanks for pointin' that out Fats image

I still think those rim dings would bring down the 65+ grade

    I'm on to other coins

It appears to be a nice coin, but a 67 it isn't. Looking at his feedback, especially some that were withdrawn, I wouldn't go higher than the current bid price.
  • Not everyone sees the need to slab coins. Guess I'm one of them. image

I have 20 or 30 morgans...not many. Only 3 or 4 are slabbed. why? I enjoy them as are and dont see the "need" to slab them. I will have them slabbed one day. I'm curious as to how they grade. I also want to protect them more than the plastic they live in right now. But for now, I enjoy the coins as they are.

They stay in my safe, they're handled only when I wear surgical gloves. Otherwise, they sit in the safe, safe. If I was going to sell a coin or coins....then I guess I'd have it slabbed.

so, what the hell am I talking about?? image

It might be a 63 or maybe a 64 but I'll tell you what; you DON'T find raw $13k MS67 Morgans on sleazeBay, in a shop or even @ a show. The double priced postage is a turnoff too.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

64.... with tons of hype whose sole intention is to get a dolt or two to bid 65/66 money for it.

But if it really was a 66 it would already be in a holder.
    When in doubt, don't.

I didn't even get as far as the shipping the first time around. $10 plus insurance to ship a raw Morgan is ridiculous.

65 if the picture is accurate.
  • Nice looking coin.

If the picture is not altered in any way (to disguise a nasty hit), it will probably grade at PCGS MS-64 (maybe MS-65). The S/H is much too high. The seller is trying to pass on eBay/PayPal fees to the buyer via the S/H fee. So, ask yourself this question "if the seller is trying to make money via the S/H fee, what else is the seller up to?".

If the coin were actually higher than MS-65, it would be worth the PCGS fee to get it certified. Since the seller is unwilling to get the certification, he obviously does not believe it will grade that high. The jump in price from MS-64 to MS-65 alone makes it worth the PCGS certification fee. So, what does that tell you?

Just enjoy the picture and move on to the next Morgan.

Appears to be a solid 64, possible 65 depending on the chin. Wouldn't be too concerned with the reverse rim.
  • If they realy thought it was a 67 they'd be slabbing it not selling it !!!

Buyer beware, if it sounds to good to be true it usually is !!!

I hate raw coins. Avoid them. This looks better than a 62, but what was done to it to make it look this way. If I knew it wasn't doctored, I would say a good shot at 65.

That's too bad. Some of the nicest coins in my registry set were bought raw. But not from an eBay auction like this.
