Bought My First Proof Liberty Nickel - Cameo Too

I found this to be an attractive coin, 25% above sheet price for a non-cameo. I know it is a higher mintage year, and the easiest year to find a cameo, but that's what us type collector do best!

    Very nice, good choice. I've looked at alot of David Lawrence's inventory and I must say his pricing, for what his overhead may be seems really reasonable on alot of nicer material.

    I think it is great! Nice buy Brian.

    I can't see why cameo proof Lib Nicks are not more popular. I think they look great and there sure aren't many of them. I sold a nice one two years ago and that is one coin I wish I still had. I wanted to buy it back but the owner likes it so there you go.

    I don't have pop reports with me, but I think the 09 is the most common proof Liberty Nickel minted, and I'd guess that it has a relatively high pop compared with other post 1900 proof Liberty Nickels. Question: are cameo proofs of this date scarce?

    I ask because on some dates (like my 05), proofs are typically brilliant, and proof cams are very hard to find. OTOH, many Barber and late Seated dated proof coins come with the cameo look, and I think paying a premium for such coins in unwarranted.

    I always know I did good when I get Michael's seal of approval.... I'll need to put a sticker on the slab corner for coins he's approved!

    The 1909 is the highest mintage proof year other than 1883 WC and 1883 NC. It also has the most cameo examples graded by PCGS. Totals in the PCGS pop report are 1,000 in PR, 77 in CAM, 8 in DCAM. I'm sure there are other CAMs not noted on the holder, raw, or in NGS holders. Also there are likely duplicates from crackouts. Delivered price was $508 which I find reasonable.
