I agree. About 25 years ago, I turned one down from Leon Hendrickson (Silver Towne) at a LB show for about $3K--been kicking myself in the arse ever since!
- 1907 Ultra High Relief (is there a prettier design?) - Pan-Pac 50 Round (not octagonal) - Brasher Doubloon (a classic) - The silver Amazonian set (This may be the only contender to the Saint design) - 1936 Gobrecht Dollar in 65
My dream coin would be an 1849 Liberty double eagle. It's unique and the first of the series.

Unrealistic anytime soon - 1795 $10 Eagle, or the Eliasberg 1870-CC quarter (supposedly MS-64), or the Eliasberg 1793 Liberty Cap Cent
Realistic anytime soon - 1796 or 1797 Dime
Wait how did I end up on a thread from 2004. I’m an idiot
BTW, I wasn't agreeing with the part of your post where you said you were an idiot
I was agreeing with the Eliasberg '93 Liberty Cap part, What a coin!!

All of the previously mentioned coins are certainly dream coins and I'd love to have any one of them, however the first coin that comes to mind is to locate a very choice 1898-O Micro O Barber Half Dollar.
One was discovered recently in a strong VG 10 state and I know that there must be others out there somewhere. Finding one in choice AU would be the pinnacle to my Barber set.
Nothing more needs to be said, as that coin speaks for itself.
Good choice!

Don’t you mean the 1892-O Micro O?
The post you commented on is old and the poster has passed away. At the time of his post there was news of a newly discovered 98-O micro O half. It was even mentioned in the Barber Collector Society Journal I believe. It never materialized.

It's funny how my tastes have changed over the years ... there was a day when a certain 94-S Barber Dime would have been the one to roll of my lips. Being here for long enough, I find it interesting that sometimes people on this board have owned (or still own) coins I have pined for.
.
Overall value aside, as there are more valuable coins, I still keep a picture of Stewart Blay's former 1807 Bust Quarter (P67) on my desktop. It is the one coin I would love to own, and still 15 years later, when I stop and look, I still awe over that one. A dream, for sure.
.
Also, the ex-Eliasberg 1817/4 Half (P53) is still owned by a board member, so far as I know, and I keep a picture of that one close at hand also. It is probably the Holy Grail for most of the Bust Half Nuts, and the one many of us might give a left N** to own. I know I might. I didn't say who's, but ... you know!
.
That said, I really liked @keyman64 's thread and premise about dream coins within our series of pursuit, and maybe within our grasp (barring windfalls of epic proportion).
There is a specific 1815/2 Half (P58+) that my good friend @lkeigwin owns, which is, well, superlative. I have had the pleasure to see it, and although I'm sure I'm about 8th in line, if he offered it, I'd have to try. He has about 14 others I could say the same for ... so if he ever lets loose, I could go broke quickly!
And then there is the good Doctor @drddm What can I say ... I have never seen it in hand, but among his precious gems, an 1824 over various dates Half in P58+ comes to mind. Well, and his 1814 E/A in P63+. And, and, and!! Owners of a copy of the COINage April/May 2021 magazine have glossy images for those two. Maybe he'll read this and bring the 24-103 for show and tell next time we see each other!
Finally, although I haven't really ventured into the Flowing Hair Bust Halves, my friend @ebriker (who comes around here once in a blue moon) owns the coolest 1805/4 O-103a (N55) in existence, the ex-Neman example. It is the condition census #1 for it's attribution. Another one I would have to try for if he was selling, and if he remembers, I asked him to let me know first.

It’s possible that I’ve answered similar threads differently over the years.
For me, a dream needs to be based in reality - something difficult, but possibly attainable.
I achieved something slightly beyond a dream in a different hobby a couple of weeks ago. I’m still over the moon about it. I digress……
