    Louis,

Nice looking coin. Great strike and a wonderful full head. I grade it MS 64FH.

Whatever you paid for the coin back in 1985, it was well worth it. My set includes a 23-S almost identical to yours, but its a touch whiter. Your's has lovely toning and its a real stunner.

No question ask. A sharp Full Head coin. At the best, MS64FH.

  • Granddad- It looks like there may be some PVC on the coin. Gently swab the coin with a QTip soaked in acetone to see if it will come off. Depending on luster and PVC contamination, the coin could be anywhere from a 63FH to a 66FH. The coin has a wonderful full head. Good luck.

That's the best obverse I've seen on a 23S. Full head detail, and no rub on Miss Liberty's rt leg and full toes. Grade wise, that spotting should be checked out for PVC, as someone else mentioned. I think this coin would go 64 because of the spotting, and more importantly, significant contact marks on Miss Liberty's rt. thigh. The reverse is just so-so, but I don't think it will hurt the grade.

  • Many thanks for the comments. I wasn't able to get a good scan on this coin. I am a rookie at scanning. The coin has beautiful luster. As for the spots, they don't appear on the coin itself, I think the scanner is picking up something within the holder that the coin is in.

I think about all you can really tell from this scan is that it has UNC. details. mike
  • What a nice full head on Liberty. I agree with most of the others. If the spots aren't on the coin, the chatter on her leg and the unremarkable reverse will give a 64FH. If you got some better digital pics of the coin, it's possible it may look better and bump the grade a point or so. JHMO.

    Beautiful coin.

not to cast any doubts, but make sure that mintmark is real. i suspect it is, since the coin has that "look" of a 23-s (as opposed to a philly coin).

Beautiful coin. I would go with 65FH. Glad to hear that's not PVC.

I don't know much about SLQs by date, but it must be a heck of a 23-S. I've never seen Karl that excited!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
