From the 23s's I have seen this looks like a solid 66 to me. That strike is as full as it gets for a 23s!

Nicest image of a 23S I've seen. I'd say a technical 4 due to the tick marks on the reverse, but probably got a bump to a 5 due to the eye appeal of the obverse.

Its undergraded IMHO. Then again I can't grade these worth a hoot. I thought it was a very solid 65.

My ONLY guess as to why this was graded as MS63 would be the possible hairlines. I say possible as what I see as hairlines could very well be marks on the slab.

Nice coin, either way.

as i know squat about buffs,i was gonna go AU because of the reverse.
my question is,should the strike really affect the MS grade ?
MS is MS !
it is Mint State,sorry we didnt strike it fully because we were lazy !

The obverse is a solid 65 and the reverse is an ms63+ so PCGS should have given this slab at least an ms64 grade in my opinion.

Caitlin, I agree with you re your analysis of the coin. You know more about this series than I do, but you rarely find 20's S mint Buffs with this kind of strike. Was this in an old green holder? If so, that may explain the MS 63 grade.
