Tab Toning

I have a photo of a Commem with tab toning. Does anybody have a photo of the original holders that these came in?

That's a fantastic and telling example, Louis, of why tab-toned coins look the way they do! Thanks!

    Nice coin Carl!

    Here's a Long Island:

  • Thanks guys!

That photo shows why Hoot's has a dot in the center and mine doesn't appear to. His must have come from the center slot while mine came from one of the others.

Since mine is an Elgin, Louis's photo is of an Albany holder and Hoot's coin is a Long Island is it true that all these classic Commems came in holders like that?

The different issues came in many different kinds of holders, Carl.

But, the one Louis shows--that kind of holder was very common for a lot of the commem issues... I have seen cards that held three coins, and cards that held more... like that one. That is exactly how most of the tab-toned coins got that way. And yes, the center coins can have the toning spot dead in the middle, while other coins from the card are only toned around the edges.

  • Great post, Carl.
