  • Back down to $280,000.
  • But there is a new Lebron EXQUISITE 1 of 1 on eBay. Link to LEBRON 1 of 1 Any thought on where this will end up?

Maybe there will be a "Lebron 1/1 Night" at one of his games. Every ticketholder gets a different Lebron 1/1, courtesy of Upper Deck. Next day, 5,000 Lebron 1/1's hit eBay...

LOL, that's a good one. There probably are already several hundred LJ's 1/1's imagine how many there will be when he retires.

I would have to disagree. There was a legitimate sale for the Kobe/ Lebron logoman for $60000+

There is no question that the Jordan/ Lebron logoman is a much better card. Five times better? I don't think so, but right now it is going for that much.

That said, I agree with your estimates regarding the future value of this card.
  • The other 1of1 Lebron mentioned is from the base issue where each player as a 1of1. That one can be considered his 1of1 rookie card. It has no patch and all but should sell for $6000-8000 range.

Nice card. I wonder since this card does not have any of the popular bells and whistles how this card will hold up in the future against all the autograph and jersey cards.
  • I believe that 1 of 1 base rookie should go higher then the 6K-8K. Only saying that due to the relevance of the 300K price of patch card being bid on.
  • kobykoby Posts: 1,699 ✭✭
That exquisite card should be Lebron's best base card. If we do not consider autograph cards and memorabilia cards to be real RCs , that should be Lebron's best rookie cardas well. Even though the logomans are more expensive, I would almost prefer that base card. There are several logoman cards out there with Lebron (Kobe/lebron, Jordan/lebron, etc) while there is only one of that base card.

IMO the Exquisite is not a very attractive card. The EX Essential Credentials Future 1/1 looks much nicer (I don't know what any of the other 1/1s look like offhand).

Thanks for putting the card in a penny sleeve at least. Good thing grading isnt the thing for modern cards, because that one screams "&" to me.

  • << <i>Edited to say.. Anyone notice that feedback comment was removed? But it still counts against his rating..Still shows up as a neg in the last month, but the actual comment is gone. >>

Looks like the previous negative has been completely removed now - including from his rating.

  • California? Card Sharks (Upper Deck)? I wonder what Upper Deck's marketing budget for Esquisite Basketball is? $300k? $360k?

I'm happy to see that neg is completely gone. At least ebay stepped up on this one. I wonder if they removed everyones, or just this guys....

Another thing I find interesting...High bid is 299,999.99

    Now if I were a gambling man....which I am...image
I would guess that the current high bidder may not be real. Here's why. Original BIN 300k, at 280k the reserve was still not met. I want to feel important today so I'm going to bid 299,999.99 because I am quite certain that it will be highest bid possible without meeting the reserve, and thereby obligating me to pay for something I personally couldn't afford even if I wanted to.

Just seems too deliberate to me. Especially with min bid increments that large...

Maybe I'm just a conspiracty theorist. image

You may very well be right. Since the auction already went over the reserve of $300,000 once, everyone knows what the reserve is. Therefore, it was relatively easy for someone to place bids that ended up at $299,999.99. The seller is qualifying bidders though and I believe the current high bidder has less than about half of a day to respond to the seller or the bid will be cancelled.

  • Well, What do we think? Will it sell or not?
  • phreakydancinphreakydancin Posts: 1,691 ✭✭
The bidding's kind of stalled, hasn't it? I can only guess that some last minute bidding will take it over the reserve, but who knows?
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
It's gone over the reserve a few times, but the bids keep getting retracted or cancelled. Gotta love the "entered wrong bid amount" on a $275,000 auction... image
  • That dude isn't gonna get what he wants for that card, not even close! I hope he holds on to it to long and ends up selling it for about 2 grand!image

I have to say, I kind of agree. If you get 200k for a card you pulled and you aren't smart enough to let it go...you deserve to get stuck IMO. A 300k windfall isn't neccessarily permanently lifechanging, but it certainly life-altering in the short term. If he doesn't sell this thing, invest some of the money and count his blessings..then he's an idiot. A reserve of 300k...unreal. I was big fan of his, but the more I think about it, the less I am inclined to want to cheer for him.

The only reason the auction is so high is due to the reserve. That card would be lucky to get $100,000. Actually, we all know that the Kobe/James was overpriced also, so in all reality, it could sell for less than the $62,000 that card sold for.

Personally all these private auctions don't really allow us to speculate on the value of a card due to one bidder could be jacking the price up.
  • Its down to 151,100? Why would this guy cancel all the bids when the reserve is not met. Why would he not keep the price up there and then relist it with out the reserve. He is killing any price that he would have gotten on the relist. Uggggg, simple business sense would have helped this guy a ton!
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
He should have set his reserve at 75k and been happy with a penny more. It's not going to sell, not for 300k anyway. It just isn't worth that IMO.

awwwww... reserve not met.. man i'da sold that SOB for $150k in a second..

Will he sell it anyway? From the listing -

<< <i> THIS EXQUISITE CARD WILL BE SOLD TO THE HIGHEST VERIFIED LEGITIMATE BIDDER! BIDDERS MUST CONTACT ME AT (707)321-8796 WHEN BIDDING! IF I DO NOT RECEIVE CONTACT YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELLED! THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK! >>

I guess he doesn't understand the concept of reserve...
    image
  • That dude will probably relist it with a $295,000 reserve next time. By the time he finally sells that card, he'll be lucky to break even with all his listing fees.

To the owner of the card, if you are reading this, take my advice. List that card with no reserve, and sell it to the highest bidder and be happy with what you get, because it will fetch a lot more now than it will next year at this time!
Culpepper to ?, only God knows at this point!
  • Ended early with the Buy it Now Option...looks to me like the seller didn't like the way the auction was going and, hiding behind the privatized bidders, had someone buy it out for him.
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
That was the first auction that had the buy it now. The bidder wasn't legit and ruined a bunch of auctions. The 2nd auction, the one everyone is referring to, didn't have a buy it now for that very reason. Besides, it would have been a lot cheaper to cancel all bids and end the auction early on that first one than to sell it via BIN which carried about a $15,000 price tag.

There is an article about it on Yahoo:

    Lebron/Jordan card
  • jrdolanjrdolan Posts: 2,549 ✭✭
    From the Yahoo article:
Upper Deck spokesman Don Williams declined to give specific financial figures but did say his company is pleased with Exquisite sales.

"It's a once-in-a-generation type of product designed for the serious collector," Williams said. "Based on the overwhelming, positive feedback on the prices, we're very pleased with the reaction from collectors."

Once in a generation? Does that mean UD won't print another 1/1 card of this kind for another 20 years? Uh huh. I expect to see several more of these "once-in-a-generation" cards listed on eBay for five and six figures by California sellers before the end of the year. UD is probably looking for Kareem and Chamberlain jerseys to cut up and stick on Lebron cards as we speak.
