My response to Walt Hutton and other critics

To Mr. Hutton and others criticizing the timing of changes to the Lothlórien Collection Year 2000 Registry Mint Set:
First, I will not wait until the last minute to post changes to a registry set again. God did not put me on this Earth to create anger, enmity, and enemies. Whether my accusers are justified or not, it is my responsibility to avoid generating this kind of situation. For that I am sorry.
However, for Mr. Hutton:
Your personal emails have been filthy. Luckily my daughter is not old enough to read and is not using email yet. As you are a mature adult I would suggest you use more decor when dealing with others you do not know, whether you are in agreement with them on issues or not.
Including my wife or her name in any of the discussions is wholly inapproriate. Your conclusion (because of the presence of her name in the
"Name" field of a personal email) that she has anything to do with the PCGS message boards, the PCGS registry set, or the matter at hand is incorrect. Broadcasting her name is not appropriate. Anyone's comments on this issue should be directed solely at me.
I believe one of your first comments to me was to "wollow (sic) in my glory". The only glory I have is the glory of salvation I have been given by God. In this I will be more than happy to wallow (delight in).
As for sniping "at the last minute", yes it was the last day (in the morning as I recall). As for the reason, does it matter? You could very well have posted 3 upgrades on the last day and I would have lost. Oh well. It matters not who wins anyway. If you have a better set on June 30, 2005 I will be more than happy to congratulate you.
And, why did you conclude that there was not some non-malicious reason this was done on this day? It seems your knowledge in this area would be zero, so I would question your conclusion. Maybe I just lead a busy life.
For Mr. Hutton and other critics:
As for the set of 22 pieces of metal in subjective plastic holders at issue, this is not who I am. Whether this set exists or not, is the best or worst, does not enhance me as a human being or give me any standing above or below anyone else. It does not give me power. It doesn't give me importance. It doesn't give me glory.
What it does give me is a little something to celebrate the year my daughter was born (as a supplement to the Sacagawea set I started for the same reason). It is for fun. It is for good memories.
As someone said, life is better if you worry about the things that matter. This is not one of them.
As for my character, no one on these message boards knows me well enough to make any judgments on my character. You cannot draw a picture of someone from one incident or make inferences about them if you have never even talked to them. No one here knows me personally. I have had one or two private missteps with board members for which I have tried to make amends. Even from these, a judgment cannot be properly made. I am a human being. I am a Christian. Neither of these implies I am perfect. And, a mistake does not a villain make.
I do respect the PCGS registry. I think it is a great tool for sharing, competing, and enjoying coin collecting. As far as I know I broke none of the rules. I own and currently possess all of the coins registered in my sets. I am definitely at a loss as to why a person who followed the rules of a friendly competition is being villified (even if by a minority). I would have no problem and would comply if PCGS modified the rules in any number of ways.
I would like to thank those of you you have sent friendly emails and posts on this subject. I have enjoyed them and will enjoy watching all of our sets grow and mature.

I think that anyone whining over such things should be collecting baseball cards with the rest of the kids!
We now have an official "sniper's day",... June 30th
Great comments, and congratulations on getting the top spot.
Some people need to grow up, and show the class you have shown here.

Congrats on the top spot !
I think that after reading your post we all have a much better idea of your character (which most never questioned I'm sure).
Unfortunately after all of the posts, we also know the character of a few of other members too.
Hope you and your family truely enjoy your outstanding set !!

My World Coin Type Set
I want to also add that I do recognize Walt's INTENSE PASSION for the hobby and desire to achieve the very best in his personal collecting series. I understand the frustration that comes with working hard at a series for year(s) only to see that someone has a better set than you, despite all your efforts.
One of the many lessons I have learned "doing registry" for the past 1/2 dozen years is that it is OK to be #2 or even #5 or #25. I enjoy competing as much as the next guy, but, in fact, at times it is immensely cathartic to be #2 or #25 AND TRULY ENJOY YOUR COLLECTION.

Now if these were seated quarters.........I would understand what the whole deal was about!
