How long have you been collecting the same series, be it Morgans, early type or what have you?
10 years?
20 years?
More?
Have you been doing it avidly the whole time?
Have you had other mistresses in the interim?
I would encourage anyone to post regardless of how long you've been at it.
(For whatever it's worth, I don't "collect" coins but I do collect rare natural history books and have been doing so for 26 years, fairly avidly the whole time.)

It's the only coin I have collected as a series. (although I have many types of coins and exonumia)
I just completed my latest nickel album yesterday. (38-65 PDS) The final coin was a 1941-D MS-65. (my estimate)
I must admit, there was a time in my teens and early 20's when "other things" seemed more important.

But i do hoard silver Washington Quarters for no apparent reason other than the fact that i like them... most of them are low grade specimens.

for me I think my most dedicated set has been SLQ's ... which may never be done, but I'm still searching for the Choice AU/Unc's ... I started the collection at the ANA show in Seattle, 1990
hey, come to think of it, I still have 18 years before I'm certifiable, so maybe I will finish

Dedication is perhaps better measured by intensity rather than time. In my view, a man who is intense and vociferous in his pursuit in the short haul can fairly be described as MORE dedicated than a man who sort of “passes through” over the course of many years. matteproof.

I fell in love with early type in the early 1970's. Before then I could not afford them although I did buy a 1799 Bust dollar in choice VF circa 1970.
I collect other coins but not as long.

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Mainly I like collectng Civil War tokens. My first token I purchased in the early 1960's was "Our little Monitor" the famous Yankee ironclad that was built in my old hometown neighborhood of Greenpoint Brooklyn.
These tokens can really take you off the beaten path of collecting. Many have interesting historic or colorful stories are behind them. They also were struck in unusual metals some of which were never used in any regular production of a US coin. I never seem to get bored with these pieces as there is still much unknown about them
and researching them for me is challenging and great fun.
Their crudeness of manufacture and their numerous beautiful designs are very interesting to study.
in '65. I collected the silver ones but had no interest in collecting the clad until 1972. So 32yrs.
I've been quite avid since the late '70's.
I have had to take a few breaks, but I am still at it.
As a kid it was circulation change, mostly pennies, and dimes, quarters, half dollars and a few dollar coins.
While in the Military I started collecting world coins.
A number of years ago I took a different direction with ancient coins.
Now I am back fiddling with US coins again.
