How long were you a "lurker" before you posted?

RegistryCoinRegistryCoin Posts: 5,117 ✭✭✭✭
Did you Lurk? How long did it take you to "join in"?
Did you admit to lurking?
I think that saying one lurked long before joining, gives one a sense of expertise and even, foreboding.

On the ball now. This one only took some seconds, rounded to the nearest minute. Russ, you are the champ! image

A little over a month, saw the good, the bad, and the ugly (glad that icon hasn't popped up yet since I've been here) and yes I admitted to lurking.
    Prost!

  • I lurked off and on for 10 months before I made my first post.
  • As I recall, I posted right away. I got chewed on by a few of the veterans, but a couple of the other veterans came to my rescue.

A year and a half for me. Really about 18 months before I signed up. I collected when I was a kid for a couple of years and left the hobby. Then I got to the point where about 4 years ago I was considering about getting a new hobby and decided to get back into coin collecting. I didn`t know about this place until I was back for a year. I liked what people where doing here as there where some people that really knew thier stuff ( ok you can stop laughing now.image ) But really, you really can learn a good bit here if you`re open to it.

Me? It intimidated the begeebers outta me for about a half a year or so before my first post. Did I admit? I don't think the word "lurker" was used for this purpose back then...Just jumped in... I was "lime green". image
Now that I can consider myself somewhat fluent (at least I can get by), I will admit that "forumspeak" is a foreign language
    that takes time to learn.
ps. I think it's those guttural sounds that make it difficult. image
  • I read the boards for about 6 months, finally joined when I had a question for David on the Q & A forum. I have started and replied to threads only in the last month or so !!image

    Pretty short amount of time.

Once I stumbled on this place, I recognized that the loonies here were my kind of scum, I had to

    get involved right away.

I think I read the threads for about 4 months before participating more actively.

Hey Russ: I remember that thread and almost posted to it. It was still on the first page when
    I found this place.

I couldn't tear myself away from reading threads to register until I got to about page three. So
I lurked about half an hour or so.

    I lurked for several months.

However, one day I saw some joker make a ridiculous post and I couldn't take it anymore. I signed up, but by that time the thread had been pulled.

I've been lurking on the NGC boards for nearly two years and have yet to sign up.

I was a little reluctant to join when I first discovered the site because I don't really know anything about coins, so I figured "What could I possibly add?"

After reading for a few weeks, though, I realized that it clearly wasn't necessary to know anything about coinsimage

About 3 months. I was reluctant to join because of all of the petty squabbles and bashing that took place. Eventually decided that the education that could be had far outweighed the stupidity that pops up now and then.
