  • Why would anyone want an NGC slab with an 1885 Morgan and a 1922 Peace? I could see maybe doing like a '21 Morgan and a '21 Peace... but... this is stupid...

This is one of NGC's multicoin slabs. They started this last year. There are many Multi-coin Sets that can be created, some to the collector's own specification. Two coins, such as the ones depicted must first be graded independently, then they can be combined so that there is a grade match.

So, to call this idea dumb is just another inane slander on somebody's own collecting preferences. To each his/her own.

Agreed. It should also be pointed out that PCGS does multicoin slabs, too.

Yes, they do. They had to keep up with the Joneses (NGC).

You can "create your own" multicoin NGC slab as long as the coins will fit within the slab's real estate. You submit previously NGC graded coins and then an additional $6 per coin.

Why is this a stupid idea? It is just another market into which companies explore . . . notice that PCGS followed quickly? Some of us, me being one, collect slabs as a fun sideline to our "mainstream" collections. That's what makes this hobby so fun!

.............and a good application of the multi-coin slab would be with the 2004-2005 Jeffersons which will have two same date coins/year. some things are only stupid to a closed mind.

I look at these slabs and see a storage issue.

Great point . . . but NGC has a solution . . . a special storage box for the multicoin holders! Imagine that! image

That is great if you want a behemoth box taking up space in the safe. I use Eagle pages so these multi-sets would never work for me.image

You guys who whine about multi-coin slabs and HSN should realize that before you spout off that PCGS has holder coins for these shows and has multi-coin slabs. If you are only whining about it because someone else does it fine, whine on. If you are whining about it because you don't like either practive then you should mention that PCGS does it too. Or better yet quit sweating the small stuff.

That is either the second or third multi-coin holder variety (NGC 13 and NGC 15) Depending on whether it has the Lamp of Knowledge or the crescent ANA logo. Fairly soon there will be yet another variety once the PNG endorsement is added.

Conder, do you know when the PNG endorsement will be coming off the PCGS holder?--BigE

BigE- They wont do that. They,ll just scratch off the PCGS logo and scratch in an NGC logo.

I have no idea. I would say probably whenever the supply of holograms they have on hand runs out.

For those who think these holders are "stupid", I would ask if you've ever heard of the Capitol plastic holders that have been around for eons, and are QUITE popular with many collectors.

It's the same idea, and for display purposes many probably feel this offers an attractive display.

I've had uncirculated war nickel sets in the Capitol holders, and have to say, the presentation is very attractive. An NGC or PCGS multi-coin holdered set would also be attractive, and offer the benefit of the set being graded.

As far as storage.......I'm sure something can be figured out. They may not fit in to what certain collectors are currently using, but I would feel VERY confident that companies such as Eagle, who make storage albums, will come out with some sort of "sleeve" or such, to accomodate these types of holders if they remain popular.
