Help me grade this raw 32S Wash. - new pics added

JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have this nice uncirculated 32S Washington with a nasty reed hit on the obverse. Any opinions on how this would grade. The pictures are shot under different light sources but completely untouched.

A nice coin as a key date UNC, and I am not a Wash expert, but my gut tells me: MS-62

Hard to say with those pictures. Looks MS, but with those dings on the obverse, I would say no more than MS62.

What's unusual about this coin is that the motto is well struck, which is not typical for this date. If in fact it's an Unc. (hard to see detail with this lighting), it's definitely on the low end due to all of the contact marks in key areas on the reverse.
    "Vou invadir o Nordeste,
    "Seu cabra da peste,
    "Sou Mangueira......."
  • Looks unc to me... other than the reed hit, it's a gorgeous coin! 62, IMHO... **maaaaaaybe** 63...

Sorry but I think this one falls in the high AU catagory. mike

if your sure it's unc, i'd say ms-63. but i could see it getting undergraded in a slab at ms-62.

this assumes equitable luster, but again, make SURE it's unc.

Very nice high end AU-58 or a very low mint state...

Well, grading by photo isn't easy. But looks like a trace of wear on the jaw, front of the neck, and a little on the back of the curls. I'd give it AU-58. If it is a lighting trick, then I'll go MS-61 and no higher. I have seen better 1932 washingtons get MS-61.

It doesn't look Unc to me either. If it is, I don't think it would go as low as 62. Those reed marks look nasty on your blown up picture, but on a coin the size of a quarter shouldn't stop it from getting a 63.

I'd say AU-58. There is rub on the highest points.

If the coin gets slabbed as Mint State, it won't get any higher than MS-62, perhaps MS-61, because the small marks are pretty obvious.

Looks MS to me. Has the typical die cracks along base of neck and right wing.
A very nice MS-62 due to the unfortunate hits on the face.

I would say MS61 or 62. Because the coin is a key date they may tend to be a bit tougher on it.

Hopefully these pics can better show the coin. There is no rub, its unc. with some nasty hits on the obv.

If no rub, MS61. Would have to see it live.
