Nice coin, typical very strong San Francisco strike. Looks like a high end 64, maybe 65.

MS-64 (Shot 65) -- 2 reeding contact marks on lower cheek near jaw hold the coin back from being a 65 -- in my opinion...

    64. I won't go 5 because there are many small hits on the face and that model is common in nice high grade condition so you can be tight with the grade.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Hey big Dog, what, you turning into one of "them?" Shouldn't they all be graded the same no matter what year or mint-mark?

LOL. Yes. But when looking at one of the most common Morgans a collector should be a little tough.

Boy, talk about egg on your face. I thought this was Carl's thread. Serves me right to only open the last page.

It is very hard to grade from any scan or photo. That scan is very hard because it is hard to tell what is a mark and what is a scanning artifact. My best guess without seeing the coin would be a high end 63 with a shot at 4.

  • It looks very nice. Especially the reverse. The fields are nice and clean. And the strike is strong. I could see this coin as an MS65.

Yeah, unless it was yours and you were selling it. Then it would be a "MS66 Cameo".

No one thinks AU? Looks like plenty of luster breaks, in fac the entire face is a luster break.
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
What you are calling luster breaks are actually light contact marks. This is a solid high end 64, maybe even a 65.

  • << <i>

    << <i>nice clean rock solid ms63+ >>

Yeah, i say rock solid ms63+ with lots of lost luster in the primary focal cheek area and a few hit/runs

not to mention heavy roll rub on the cotton boll leaves and the entire back of the cap. it's there...

    whether it's mine or yours

so, maybe your mentality is best portrayed by your stupid comment because YOU think that way

    reckon ?

Uh-huh. Stick to modern proofs. You obviously don't know how to grade Morgans.

    wrong,VERY...better ask around sonny
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
Listen Funderburk, I've been around Morgans probably much longer that you have. Tell you what, I will buy all the 63s like this you have at greysheet ask.

Lay off the sonny bit, you're talking to someone who has handled tens of thousands of these things. And you're all wet on the 63.

heh, i've been reading some of your stuff on here as of late
you talk big but are a mere fart on a toothpick of being a professional numismatist,by a long shot
therefore i'm not going to continue to discuss it with you.

    post the grade...
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
And you wonder why you have so many problems. Some others have posted here pretty much agree with my grade, 64, possible 5. But you are the big shot dealer. If you don't own the coin, it's a 3. If you own it, it's a 5. Some of us have been around long enough to recognize this little game right off the bat.
