The coin looks like a nice VG-8 as I can see traces of her eyeball. The question for me is: What demonination is it? I know it is not a half dollar, but what is it?

Boy, that was quick - 6 comments in under 5 minutes!
    It's a dime, JR-2 variety (the JR-1 has 16 stars). Mintage ~15K. It's in an NGC VG-10 holder.

I really like it, I've been looking for one of those, half dime too!

Nice find. When you tire of it, tell me.

it's a text-book vg-10. at this level, you grade the coin primarily by the dentilation. the obverse dentilation is actually worthy of a f-12 coin, but the rev. is not. however, the obv. central detail does validate a f-12 grade. i'd say the coin is perfectly graded, & you got a good deal regardles of what it cost you!

VG-8 / Fine-12. If it's been netted to VG-10 and they are charging you Fine money they are not wrong.

The 1797 dime is many times scarcer than the 1796. This is the more common of the two varieties, but you don't see either of them very often. Most any collector should be proud to own such a piece. Depending upon the price I would not hesitate to buy it.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
