I am a collector pure and simple. The nice thing about collecting coins, to me anyway, is all of the different dealers that are out there. If I don't like someones price, I move to the next. I make a profit at what I do for a living. I expect all to make a profit too. If I don't like a offer from a dealer I move on. Most of all I avoid sell to a dealer because he HAS TO make a profit in order to stay in business. In my understanding thats why they are called dealers.
There is a BST forum to sell your coins to fellow collectors and drop the dealer if you wish. If you are in a bind and need to move you coins fast, a dealer is your best bet. But if you are shopping price to be paid, you will find that a dealer will low ball you everytime.
This I find is a known fact with us collectors. To offer a coin to a dealer and not get offered a price that you like, then to come on the boards and bash them is just in poor taste IMO.
Not every dealer wants YOUR coin. But maybe a collector or two will pay higher that bid for it.
In your other post to this thread you found someone before that paid what you were looking for. If the new dealer you went to did not give you a price that agreed with you, go back to your known good deal. Do what we all do in this country, vote with your dollar and your feet. Spend your dollar where you get the most value, sell where you get the best price.
<< <i>Loser, I think you dealers will be the ones to lose and thats why you jumped this thread...gotta pay for that building and when things slack off well how the bills going to get paid, how is that building going to get paid for...yeah you have big overhead...I would say way over your head... >>
dlimb2, you have busted me cold.
I never realized what a complete, total , pathetic loser I was until you pointed it out.
I think I better shoot myself before the market goes south and I can't make the rent payment.
Dimlimb2 is just another whiner. He was offered what he thought was a lowball price and got insulted; poor little boy. Instead of negotiating in good faith, or seeking a better price (read this "doing a little leg work, putting forth a modicum of effort) he trashes dealers. Most reputable dealers wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
You should have begun this post with, "I would like to hear your opinions, but only if they agree with mine."
And I thought I was good at making enemies! But dlimb2 has taken the proverbial cake. IMO only, dlimb buddy, you might be well-served to step back from the lunatic fringe a bit...
Anyhoo, comics are sort of wild and woolly but you can get decent prices for really choice material on ebay, etc.; and the grading game for comics has been around only about 3 years, supergrade hype and so forth - every so often you can have a real score, but inevitably that means whomever you "scored" it from will feel taken (if they know about your success) - all part of the game.
I agree with a lot of what the others have said here, if you want the full money, do the work yourself. I just sold a dupe I had to Lucy, actually sealed the deal just this evening, I could have gotten a little less, 20-30% or so less than what I sold it for, if I had saved it for the convenience of when I go to a show. But I chose to do the work of finding a buyer, writing a complete and accurate description, along with imaging the coin, true it wasn't much work, about a half hours work or so, and I'll have to go out and ship it, but the satisfaction of a job well done and getting that extra couple bucks is well-worth it to me. Try selling some coins yourself, using EBay or the BST forums, and get a bit of perspective from the other side of the table, or better yet, sit in and help a dealer at his table at a show... I believe many will agree with me, that you should have a much different view of dealers after that...
Outhaul, your a F..king moron...I spoke of one dealer and you would think I had been to see all of you....If all of you deal in coins the way you read and confuse issues no wonder the United States is in trouble....I have never seen the likes of such a bunch...totally pathetic...like a bunch of starving dogs...
We needed another scumbag, bloodsucking, good-for-nothing coin dealer to join this thread.
Which reminds me, I didn't come back to this thread for entertainment. I came back to see if my offer at melt less 3% had been accepted. Looks like I'm out of luck. I'd better start cutting overhead NOW!

It's a beaut, Lucy. I haven't visited the NGC forums since it became painfully obvious they couldn't do anything to keep away one particular vomits-at-the-mouth-threatening-physical-harm-consistently "member." This is starting to feel like a comics thread.
You don't do anything but '40's-'50's Archies, right?
And just in case you all missed it, Heritage is looking for a new Director of Collector Sales. (they love those titles, don't they) You could get this job and deal with dlimb2! Lucky you!
Hey back Lucy - have any '50's horror stuff? They were always my main comic interest, though I enjoy all comics bronze age and before. Sorry if this derails the thread, but I'm sure dlimb2 will be back and freshly loony.
<< <i>We seem to be fizzling on this...we will surely need a new participant with a new viewpoint to hit 150. Any lurkers out there agree with dlimb? >>
You know, I'm starting to come around to dlimb2's point of view. Just give me a some good drugs and I'll be there.
Maybe I'll even start arguing with myself. Soon.
Right now, I'm out fixing the country since we coin dealers trashed it.
There is an honest-to-goodness lesson in the bizarro thread. Any schmo (myself included) can purchase a coin. One needs to be a lot more savvy and practiced to sell a coin.
Besides, "bid" is the highest price currently being offered by any dealer, anywhere. So every dealer should be willing to match the offer, right? Otherwise, dealers wouldn't have to sell coins to collectors to make a profit. They could just sell to each other. And where would we be without collectors? We would end up having to melt dlimb's coins.
Hey, that's not a bad idea!

Lucy, that's close enough for me! I too like the monster cover theme that ran in Archies for a while, sort of in the Munsters/Addams Family heyday, also when (1961) Aurora's line of monster kits proved so successful... as did Big Daddy Roth's monster designs an' customs...
Big Dealers, Quit bickering and pay the man what he wants! You can sit the coins in your vault!

Outhaul, Big Daddy Roth possessed a level of creativity and outlook on life (from what I've been able to read about him) that I've found very inspiring.

While I do appreciate the Be Bop A Lula, it does not mean as much coming from a deceitful coin dealer.
Just kidding, of course, but I would rather get it from Lucy.
Would a smooch from a scumbag dealer be better?
