You can do pretty much what you want unless you do the stupid reguistry thing - which I sometimes do. Picj whatever coins you enjoy. For moderns, many proofs are super cool looking at little cost!!

    How close am I?

Yes, proofs are very acceptable. I'm currently trying to get those ^^^ 19 in proof.

Actually, for a long time people didn't care about proof vs. business strike for their type sets. Ultimately, the best set is the one that appeals to you. Exceptional coins, whatever the situation, are exceptional.
  • Of course there are no rules, but I would personally want to stick to business strikes or proofs, but not mix the two!

Isn't an MS type set already flexible enough for you? Geez...

I thought they were just mint, but...

What about the Merc, the Walker, the 20 cent, and the Morgan? They all look like proofs.

LoL, 1234567890, I happen to have those 4 types in proof, but they are in nice PCGS holders with nice numbers on them and I don't want to break them out!

ooops, my mistake, the Ike is not proof either!

the 5 proofs you're missing might be earlier than you think!
(hint: All are 19th century, and one is an 1862 with a mintage of 550 image

I think, when asking all of these questions about a type set, you have to realize one fact--your set is for you and no one else. If you are happy, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. A proof is OK if you would like a proof.

  • Some purists would insist that a set should be comprised of
    the same grade.
As difficult compleating a set has become, I see no reason
why the addition of a proof should be a problem.
  • Well I'm at a loss Baley... What are they?

I'm not allowed to use proofs in my type set. Just one of my rules. And I don't want to break the rules.

    The type set police.......LOL

Not to worry. They,re a toothless debating society.....like the UN. lol

Okay then, One Proof coin can go in but ONLY one. It will represent the one example of a US Proof coin.
    Just choose carefully though. hehe

Really I thought a `real` type set would consist of attractive MS examples of each design, but...hey,
    your collection, your rules.
  • No proofs allowed in my type set. Here's a few nickels:
