Negative~Negative~Negative~Why So Negative?

Have you ever noticed that it's always the same people that are so negative?

A negative comment here, a negative post there.

Some people are upbeat with their attitude toward life and some think they are always getting beatup. Maybe the negative attitude comes from their perspective of what has happened to them through the years.

Yup - Maybe it's just that they're tired of hearing the same old "newbie" junk. I know that when I post a question or scenario, there are folks that I know will spew venom. Mind you, that's not so bad. I want to hear the whole spectrum of opinions. It also makes me think a little harder when I post to post somewhat more intelligently - if posible. image

    hey Jim

its plain old human nature for some people to be angry at the world. for some fun and interesting responses, go ahead and tell one of those members about it. the retaliation is predictable and often humorous!!! i did it just the other day with a certain British intelligence operative!!image shame on me.

  • Last week I was in the Post Office and a nice man got into line behind me. He started talking and making jokes. It was fun to be near him and the wait seemed very short. Yesterday a man was a few places behind me. He started complaining about the lack of service and one thing and another. As an experienced PO customer I could have told him the line was about the shortest it ever gets with less than a 3 minute wait.

Anyway why choose to be a complainer? Why not try to make life more productive and enjoyable for those around us? It seems to be a simple matter of attitude.

If it wasn't for the negative people balancing out the cheerful bubbly people the world would be a lopsided unbalanced place.
Unbalanced is bad. An unbalanced washing machine walks across the floor & falls off your porch. An unbalanced tire or engine has premature failure. An unbalanced drunk falls on his face.
Like ying & yang, black & white, good & bad, can't have one without the other.
Like maggots & vultures negative people have a purpose too.

aaahh c'mon, if everybody danced around w/ daisies in their hair and a feather up their a--, singing gaily about how sunny & bright everything is all the time, this would be 1 heckuva BORING place to be negative.

course, that's how i picture mad-marty dancing around....

Just about every message board is like that. Most people take on a certain persona when online. If you want to be amused, check out Flame Warriors. You may be able to match at least one member of these boards with each type of flame warrior. image

I agree and I'm not saying that everyone should be "Happy Happy Bubbly" all the time.

My point is that It's the SAME people ALL the time...

Frankly, a little negativity keeps us all honest.

I don't like it when somebody makes a rude comment of says something mean spirited, but this makes for a true Forum with open discussion. If we were all happy-go-lucky collectors, this place would be nothing but a glorified support group.

Now if you like that sort of thing then more power to you. But I prefer a little negativity/hostility.

  • I think everything is reletive and if everyone was bubbly someone would say why isn't this one as bubbly as the rest. I prefer sarcastic wit with a directed message to being ignored, but polite conversation, humor and a little help is prefered above all. Joe
  • I am all for disagreements, arguments and discussions. I love variety and diversity. I just don't like baseless bashing, rudeness or negativity just for the sake of being disagreeable.
  • Keets glad you enjoyed my statement calling you "predictable" feel free to use my thoughts as your own. I'm glad you find me humorous thats usually what I'm shooting for. I simply find you boring. If you need anymore help comming up with something to say let me know. I like helping as much as stirring things up.

Indeed there are always going to be some people who have a negative opinion on everything. But like Wondo said, I like to hear the whole spectrum of viewpoints, so I'm OK with it, up to the point where someone is spewing venom without any evidence to back up his position.

For some reason, I'm reminded of what Graham Chapman said in the Right-Thinking People sketch...

I think that all right-thinking people on this board are sick and tired of being told that ordinary decent people are fed up on this board with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I mostly get negative when people spend $40,000 for coins that are worth $5.

That's the extreme case, but you get my drift.

But how can one be positive when a person posts pictures of problem coin, then expects us to give them a thumbs up. Sometimes I avoid posting anything, but it's not right to lead people the wrong way. They will find out the truth eventually.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Negative is "in" these days... look at the success of reality TV and some of our pop culture icons. MSNBC can't get enough of Michael Jackson and Dean, (who is a decent guy whether I agree with his politics or not) gets slandered left and right just for rallying his troops. Come on! Negative is in!!

I think most positive people are not the "daisy dancing" hippies that everyone envisions. Most people would rather be neutral and positive, while still able to be skeptical and sarcastic when the occasion arises. It's not black and white here, people. We all have moods, and being too happy or too pessimistic all the time is pretty one-dimensional.

    Do whatever works for you.

I always want to know what you really think about a coin I ask opinions on. I ask not for a thumbs up but for expertise. I recently returned a coin you said looked cleaned and when I got it, it was. You help save me bucks.

    hey 007

you should go back and read your thread and explain to me why you decided to become upset with my post. you ignored those laughing at you before me and even responded with a cut/paste of one reply and agreed you were a pain, though probably sarcastically. i simply reiterated what others before me had said in a different, more direct fashoin. funny, too, how a couple of other threads were dedicated to poking fun at you with massive uploads of pictures and you just laughed along. so, so sorry i bother you that much. i sure hope you don't lose any sleep over it

but you're probably right. i attacked you first and i'm a troll. you win............nothing.

now, for the funny part. should i type your reply, or would you like to have a go at it??image

I agree 100%. When someone asks for an opinion honest answers should be given, even when the answer is negative.

This is not the type of post I am talking about.

I'm talking about the people that are negative about nearly EVERYTHING.

  • Ya Keets go ahead and post my response...your the genius. In that other thread you refer to, the other members criticized my thoughts on the topic, others agreed with me, thats how this works. Your response was a personnal attack beyond the thread thats the difference. So once again...Blow Me !
  • This place is FUN!... I used to hang around with people; wherein, the only thing positive about them was their negativity. It's nice to be part of a highly diverse, opinionated, and educational forum, instead of the same ole "Hum drum" negative emotionalists. There's no reasoning with those types...image

JMOORE, you are right. Some people just can't help being negative. It's too bad because they are holding themselves back.

After reading many of the posts I have to add that constructive criticism is easliy misunderstood as negative criticism, but somtimes that is caused by the way the person presents his/her viewpoint.
