It won't. DMPL and the premiums is a very US thing I believe. What he sells is nothing else than a more sophisticated method to measure the DMPL and grade according to the ANA standards. It can be done by placing the coin on a newspaper too.(see "grading mint state US coins" by JPMartin)

I agree with Dimitri, I don't think it will spead to dark, at least not for a long time.

It may not, but why not buy darkside with the best strike, deepest mirrors, and highest grade now anyway.

If it happens 20 years hence, your $50 pretty coin of today might find a buyer for $2000. Be a collector - be another Pittman.......or, as Rockefeller said (or some wise businessman), "buy straw hats in January!" image

I don't see it going beyond Morgan Dollars for the most part. That is a neat little card they are selling, but $14.94!image I believe there is a page in VAM that has something like that anyway.

Handy little tool, if you're into that, though.

Too bad the seller is a rip-off artist...He attempted to scam me for $1000 when I had just begun to collect coins. I had done an ebay deal with him for a set of "S" mint morgan dollars. I took them to get a second opinion and found out they were all sliders and told him I wanted my money back according to his guarantee. He said no way and it took me seven months and a lot of my time to finally complete a successful credit card chargeback. A real scam artist that will never receive another penny from me, or you I hope...image

It has already spread to the darkside. Savvy collectors have been quietly cherry-picking dealer's stock for the ultra-grade coins. A very smart move as the market will move in the direction of the higher end specimens over time.

They have started grading coins as PL's across the street. There have been a few
clad quarters graded PL already. These exist for most dates but are often extremely
rare. Only the '72-D approaches being common.

Some world coins are made with basined dies and will typically be seen as PL's.

  • I find it very hard to imagine that or any other form of madness among darksiders.

Wouldn't a "ruler" work just as well, about everybdy has one of those already.image
  • You should see the price differences in coins graded Ultra Deep Cameo by ICCS, as opposed to Heavy Cameo. And the differences between Heavy Cameo and Cameo.

The Little Device--is neither here nor there--but at least on the Gray Side there certainly is awareness of PL and depth of cameo.
