Wandered out to the Coin Shop Again.

Went to the place with a purpose today. Toned German coins had caught my fancy a couple of years ago but being a devout Lite Sider I always passed on buying one. Today I was going to change that stance. The dealer whipped 5 books on me to look at. Went through 4 of them with nothing that tripped the buy switch. Ahh book 5. A 1/2 Mark was found that said buy me. It was white though. Further on in the 1 Mark section a 1904D with light Tone tripped the switch again. A Okay coin but not spectacular. Then a 1915A came up. This coin really said take me home, even though its basically white. In my opinion this is just one heck of a coin. No real Toned coins but if all White coins could look like the 1915 my opinion about what to purchase could change.

What do you folks think ? Personally the Light Blue on this coin is a real favorite of mine. Again, as usual, price wise I was in the Dark but the look of the coin just said to me who cares what it costs. Thanks for listening to this rambling message.

Very lovely!!! You'll find that the old German Imperial silver coins don't tone a whole lot and when they do, it's usually a light gold or grey-to-purple-to-black. I suspect sulfurous storage media and I know presentation sets used velvet. If you find a nice color you like, buy it!

I was always fond of this Imperial toner! Is this the type blue you were thinking about? image

    Exactly....image Very Very nice IMO.

The 04D is a very light Golden Brown. As you said a few others were this color also.

Right at the moment I am wary about buying anything not sight seen. When some knowledge gets under the belt that stance probably will change. In other words.....I am Chicken.

Those small German coins are cool expsecially with rin toning and a die crack at the top. Looks like lightning hitting the crown.

1jester the cost of this coin versus the cost of a 1918 USA quarter is something I discussed with the wife after she asked me why I had started picking up a few coins other than USA coinage. Almost disbelief came to her face when the huge difference in dollar value was revealed.

Cosmic you saw the die crack up top. Small cracks are also on this one between the tips of the feathers on the left side.

USA grade on this one if I graded it.....MS65 and solid. Of course that is just a opinion. image

Nice look ing coins. German Imperial coinage is undervalued from my perspective. I buy it when I can.

    Ken--

Those kind of revelations have kept me over here on the Dark Side, tormenting these fine people for almost a year now. I bought a strange little coin at a coin show--and it gave me the world.

I like your coin... brother fairlaneman.

That's how it often starts, Clank ... and then the "Hotel California Effect" kicks in and their souls are ours forever!! Subtle, yes ... sneaky, undoubtedly ... but we're just fine with it! imageimage
