I would grade it AG03. This is a WAG, of course, since I don't have a clue. image What do you guys think?

  • VG-8. Much better than any AG I've seen.

  • I'm not any expert with colonials but it's definitely better than AG. I'm going to say VG8 also.

    Cammie,

I'll have to discount your grade since you overgraded Shylock's IHC.

At first blush I said Good-6. Then I looked at the Good in Kessler's book and decided that it's a VG-8 by his standards.

Sure. Thats fine with me. Sell it as a Good to me since I overgraded it.

  • VG 8. OK, now here's the contest. I'll offer a genuine, certified (by me) counterfeit 1877 seated liberty half dollar to the first person who can correctly attribute (by Newman #) Russ' Fugio. Only one answer per contestant. The contest starts NOW>

    My guess is 16-N.

Kranky - If that was a guess it sure was a darned good one! PM me a mailing address and I send off this blast white super gem monster DMPL, DCAM, full step, full bell lines, full torch 1877 seated liberty 'half dollar' minted from .999 fine sterling pot metal!
  • My guess is 13-R It's the best guess I have from available sources...

AG for this is alittle too conservative... G6 with a shot a VG8

I'm thankful that MrEureka posted the link to the site with all the varieties. I don't have Kessler's book.

    Thanks, abuell! PM coming. image

You know, now I'm feeling all disappointed. This one was listed on eBay and I decided to take a pass on it because of what I thought it graded. Man, I'm an idiot!

Good learning thread for me, though. image

I told you VG-08. Next time don't bluff me off with:

"I'll have to discount your grade since you overgraded Shylock's IHC."

We never found out shylocks grade yet. Maybe I was right.image

No, you never found out Shylock's grade. Hint: You were wrong. image

  • I think PCGS would call this VG8, while NGC would call it F15. NGC would however be crazy.

  • Crap! I've been collecting everything Fugio for over 15 years and have never seen that paperwork before! I'd pay $100 for the paper! I have no idea who issued these and enlarging the photo from the ebay page doesn't help. I really missed one here (insert sound of smacking oneself aside the head with a 2x4).
  • I was following that auction. I actually was going to put a bid on it. But since I don't know anything about Fugios i passed.

Nor do I, but I was willing to risk $50 to $60 on it. Now I wish I'd had bigger stones.
