Do you subscribe to Coin World

When I was younger, I subscribed to Coin World and dog-eared every issue. But that was almost 20 years ago. Is it still the best way to keep tabs on the hobby? Do you prefer online sources to CW in print?

If you're wondering about my 2 threads, on the ANA and Coin World, I've got some family members that have asked me for gift ideas and these seemed like good ones. (Too tough and expensive to ask for coins)

I have been a subscriber for several years, I enjoy reading it. Only thing I dont like about it, everyone here seems to get thier copy before me! I like having the printed version, I dont like reading articles off the screen, even with a good size monitor its still annoying to me.

Fatman, I too quit subscribing to NN, some issues are great but many are not. If I here of one I like, Ill just buy it off the newstand>

I enjoy Coin World. I would also recommend the Liberty SEated Collectors Club, which is only $15 a year, and is an excellent resource for only $15 a year.

I used to subscribe to CW and NN. I did this for about 10 years until I dropped NN. IMO, CW offers lots more. At least that was as of about 6 years ago when I dropped NN.

I've been a subscriber for many years. It's the better of the two major numismatic newspapers that publish general news. They have also enhanced their Trends price guide, which a lot of collectors use. Every dealer needs to subscribe to Coin World.

I've subscribed to Coin World since I got back in the hobby. Keeps me up to date with the latest goings-on and discoveries, and CW usually inspires a thread or two here. Nice features as well, and Trends has expanded and includes some interesting articles now. I've found some nice stuff in the ads at times.

I'm with jdimmick; I much prefer the on-land version rather than on-line.

Yes. I find it worth while. Usually the articles on new mint products look like glorified infomercials, but they do add information the Mint can't seam to bother putting on their web site like sales figures.

I get CW and NN. If I had to cut back to one, I would stay with CW.

Yes. It has some good articles. The downfall of course are the reams of advertising some of it questionable based on what I've read from others about dealing with some of the companies that are regular advertisers.

The electronic version has the advantage of being there when its fresh. My paper copy always comes on Friday, several days after most folks. I tried the electronic version and it was ok, nothing like holding the paper copy in your hand.

I have tried others and dumped them all except for CW. Some of the ads in the elctronic version are hard to read, and if you print an article the format is different and no pictures (this was about 9 months ago might have changed).

I subscribed to CW for 2 years. Lots of interesting and good articles covered different coins well.
To many ads. Started to remind me of the National Inquirer.

I subscribe to the hard version and find it intertaining and educational; I usually read from front to back but do not read the advertisements much.
Electronic versions have big advantages in that you can save what you want without piles of paper that attract silverfish.
I would say it is a positive addition to the regular reading of an active numismatist but for interest and gossip not serious education.

I've subscribed to a number of general interest coin publications over the years, but Coin World is the only one that I continue to subscribe to year after year. The articles and press releases are informative, and I find the Trends suppliment useful as a guide and starting point for pricing coins. CW is well worth the subscription price.

I have subscribed to coin world for a couple years also. Interesting articles on a broad range of subjects and I like to use the ad prices as a reference to what I own.

As a dealer, I subscribe, and read, both CW and NN. Even after being in the business nearly 40 years, I continue to learn things in numismatics all the time. I would encourage you to read these publications to keep your information base updated and enthusiasm strong.

I've been getting Coin World for close to 20 years. My comes Friday or Saturday or Monday the next week. You never know. That used to irk me when I was on a mission to check ads and be "the first" to get a shot at a tough rarity. Now that there's no coin that I'm obsessed with having, I'm more laid back about it. Some publications for my other hobbies, I get online. But, there's nothing like sitting on the patio with a cold beer after cutting the grass and having the fresh Coin World spread out in front of me.

I only read NN when I pick it up free at a show. The only thing that they have that I wish CW had is the Q&A section. I always learn something from that.

I did the same thing. I joined both and then ended up dropping NN. I enjoy CW and it makes for good reading on the throne.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely subscribe. My Dad used to get it forever (since the 60's?). I like the "portability" of being able to take the paper with me as opposed to just having online sources.

I subscribe to both. I like Coin World better but will continue my subscription for both. I need to learn from as many soruces as I can. I only have the printed issues too.

Like almost all, I subscribe to CW and read the paper copy.
I actually enjoy reading the ads, for education. You can see kinda the retail trends out there, and you can also wonder how Coast to Coast, Skyline, and Coin Depot haven't been found out.
Just saw my first print ad for TruGrade service in the last issue.

I did the same, dropped NN about 5 years ago. CW had twice as much in print for the same price.

I've been a CW subscriber for about a year. I can't make up my mind if I will renew. IMO CW is about 80% ads, 10% U.S. Mint news (dull reading for me), and 10% other. I like the 10% "other", but not sure if it's worth the subscription price. I recently changed to the online edition which is slow even on my broadband connection at work. I'm gonna switch back to print soon.

CW is almost a must read. NN is a lot of fun but has been a little less so the last couple years.
I still read it because some of their reporting won't appear anywhere else. Coinage is a monthly
which is also becoming increasingly important.
