Which Classic and Modern Commemorative is your favorite?

fivecentsfivecents Posts: 11,207 ✭✭✭✭✭
My favorite classic would be Gettysburg because of the cool design and a deep meaning for a commemorative.
My favorite modern is the Library of Congress $10. I like the dated 1930's era Reverse heraldic design, very low mintage, and the platinum and gold bimetalic design.

What are your favorites?

OK, so I will most likely never own a Pan-Pac Octagonal Fifty.

Matter o' fact, I have only one commemorative half in my possesion at the moment.

Wouldn't trade this 'un for nothin'. image

Came outta the ground lookin' pretty much just like that. Had a little soap and water bath to get the loose dirt off, and that was it.

I find the Pilgrim half extremely haunting and beautiful - I can stare at the reverse for hours - and the obverse just leaves me thinking of the early settlers being just like us - but with so much faith in the future. As for the Oregon Trail well, not only is it beautiful, but having lived in Nebraska and seen the expanses that the settlers crossed - well - it really leaves you in awe:

Louis! That is one awesome Hawaiian! image

Out of the coins I have, I like my Lafayette (see icon). For modern, I will go with the 1988-W Olympic $5 gold.

Those are some gorgeous commems that have been posted.
It is strange that some of the people repling to this thread either have no favorite classic commem or no favorite modern commem. Maybe I should have said "which commem do you hate the least.imageimage

With out a doubt, the Connecticut half. Both the obverse and reverse are spectacular.
