Gold over $380

northcoinnorthcoin Posts: 4,987 ✭✭✭✭✭
It seems price of gold has been teasing 380 for sometime. Now that it is over do we have one of those "break-outs" that will soar up to the 400 that most gold bugs have promised we'd see before the end of this year?

It is decidedly bullish that gold has been able to linger as long as it has in the $375-$390 range over the past few weeks. Several attempts to drive it down has been less than successful. The longer it hangs in there, eventually a breakout will occur. Once the "mind barrier" of $400 gets broken, it will be very bullish. Gold is like moderns. Everyone bashes it, but strong gold prices is very bullish for US Coins in general. Go figure.

I would love for gold to cross $415. I'd sell all of mine and buy a nice car.

Well its not at $380 now but after a significant hiatus we are seeing gold above $1300 once again after being in the $1200s for a significant period of time.

Curious if nwcs got that new car in the 14 years since his 2003 post, the last one here on this thread before today's update.

LOL...that's a blast from the past! It was in that timeframe that I bought my "20th century gold" type coins, (of which I'm still 2 coins short). Kind of wish I had invested a bit more! At least completed the set...and bought a few pounds of bullion!! ;)

I made a bad decision back in 1999, was either going to buy a new Mustang or gold. Lol, I do still have the Mustang though. Pushing 212,000 miles now.

Thank you for the update. I haven't checked the price of gold since 2003 and am shocked to see that it has more than tripled!

Maybe we are seeing another one of those breakouts that were being referenced in the 2003 posts. Just from yesterday's $20 leap to $1311.90, another $15 is already added:

It might be wistful to dream of $380 gold, but that would probably involve a meltdown of the coin market that would do a lot of financial damage to many of us.

Let's revisit this thread in 2031 and discuss how we wish we had bought more gold at $1300.

Me too! Still have most of it in one form or another.

I remember buying British Sovereigns in the late 60s or early 70s for $10.05 and arguing over the extra five cents!

I doubt it is going to continue... once the NK issue goes away...and the dollar is strong... it will revert... Seems very stable when around $1200 generally.... Cheers, RickO

I sold at around $650 thinking no way it would go higher ...

I remember this. The low gold and silver prices were what reignited my coin collecting bug. Like many here, I collected coins as a child. For me, it was an opportunity to spend time with my grandparents in the 1970s and early 1980s. That was when gold hit $800 and silver hit $50.

Fast forward to the 2000s, after law school, a family, house, and a little discretionary income, and I decided I could afford to collect those US gold coins I only read about when I was a young collector. Glad I did!
