Does this 1885CC Morgan have a shot at MS65?

Hi all
Came across this coin. It's in a old Green PCGS holder graded MS64. Anyone have an opinion if it would upgrade to 65?
Thanks
Tom

I think it has too many marks on the face to make 65 but its very close.

    I agree, it won't upgrade. I'd be happy as a MS-64.

If you grade it like it's sposed to be graded and not worry about all the market grade and CC bump BS it looks properly graded as a 64.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Based on the scan, I would say it does not. It is still an attractive coin regardless.

  • I dont think it will upgrade! Nice example though.image

  • The coin is MS-64. You have a slightly weak strike and a noticeable mark on the cheek and in the prime field in front of the eyes.

P.S. That is still a very nice coin.
  • Looks like, once again, PCGS got it right the first time .

Liberty's cheek looks like forty miles of bad road. No upgrade.

The reverse is nice looking, but the obverse kills it (for a 65)
  • It's properly graded at MS64 IMO.

The coin is an MS-64 and that should be it.

Still, we see these "allowances" that CC dollars get, so you could get lucky. You shouldn't get lucky and you probably won't, but the possibility exists.
