Hey Cameron, I have to know...

  • Well put Bulldog!
  • I don't see why people are bashing Cameron here. I have read and reread the thread and I see nothing inappropriate with his responses here other than possibly a slight over reation to Stujoe's joke. Assuming it was a joke.

Cameron may take himself a little too seriously, but so do I often to the point where I don't recognize a joke either. If you make a joke and we miss it don't get nasty, just say "That was a joke". You'll probably get an apology and it will prevent a lot of hurt feelings.
  • I have no problems with what Cameron collects and have referred more than one person to his site when the topic has come up elsewhere.

As long as he doesn't try his high horse, condescending, forum mommy act with me anymore, I will continue not to have any problems with him. Otherwise, he might as well get me banned now.

I agree with Conder. I don't see cameron doing anything to deserve these attacks? I know nobody likes to be told what to do but we all know the rules about off topic posts- why not put the OT stuff on the open forum? that's what it is for. mike

hey wallstreetman, uh, i mean joyofmoderns, questions for you,

<< <i><< NGC had free sample slabs at their Long Beach booth. I got one with a Missouri quarter in it. >> So did I, but I cracked it out and spent the quarter. Had it been in a PCGS sample slab the coin would have been worth more than face. >>

    what makes you think so?

<< <i>PCGS coins sell for the most so therefore they are the best graders. Anyone who says otherwise probably doesn't know what they are talking about or works for the other grading company or wants to sell overgraded coins to people >>

how do you know that, wallstreetman?

<< <i>If you think that PCGS isn't the best grading service then why are you here? Aren't there other forums for the other grading services? >>

    how would you know?

<< <i>There is a reason why PCGS coins sell for the most. They are the best. >>

    why?

    << <i>Some people don't like my opinions because I collect moderns. >>

    who doesn't like your opinions?

<< <i>I can't help that. Maybe one day I will collect what they collect and they will be happy. I do know when that time comes they will be PCGS coins only! >>

    how do you know?

    Hi all:

I usually don't post here, I tend to just lurk and read, but this particular thread is a little upsetting.

I don't know if people just enjoy being surly to someone they don't know or not, but I'm not sure why so many aspersions are being cast on Cameron's character. I've never known him to be judgemental about what people should collect or derive enjoyment from, nor do I think that he is a totally uptight kid (despite the fact that I can't get him to have a beer to save my life). In fact, I really enjoy the kid and have watched him mature into a really great guy over the last several years.

I think someone who collects slabs is pretty odd too. That stated, Cameron appreciates samples for what they represent -- the history (albeit modern) of the biggest change in the numismatic marketplace since Ed Cogan decided to put photographic plates in the 1868 Mortimer Mackenzie sale. I don't collect slabs or even particularly like them, but samples are numismatic ephemera on a par with old collectors' boxes, decades-old coin albums, or even numismatic literature. Collecting samples for the history of the development of the certification industry they represent strikes me as far more sensible than collecting cents in Proof-70 but eschewing those graded Proof-68 as worthless.

I don't collect samples, nor will I ever collect them I suspect. But quit the personal attacks on the kid, would you? I don't see that he has anything to apologize for than being less obstreperous than others here.

why get upset? there are things a lot more important then babbling on some anonymous, obscure forum to make folks get upset. is cameron upset?

Pistareen, you should post more often. Why just lurk?

  • Hi John!

Thanks for the nice words about me. I knew you would post someday with your name. I didn't expect it in this thread.

Dorkarl, I am not upset, but don't hang out here as much. I used to do a weekly post or so on samples, but haven't in a while since everyone gets in an uproar. I want to be taken seriously and don't want to give samples a bad name with all the members here, so I don't post as much. I am learning more than ever in my small field and try to share it through my website.

I just went over this thread. I don't find anything the least bit objectionable about Cam's posts either, except for the fact that he couldn't take stujoe's joke. Oh well, nobody's perfect...

  • I didn't know it was a joke. Usually jokes with a serious thread have a smiley or something. I'm sorry stujoe.

hey cameron, i (obviously) don't have any interest in your field, but i for 1 am glad your enjoying what you like to collect. sorry to say so, but pistareen's jump to your defense seemed kinda lame, since it seems you have no problems defending what you enjoy.

Apology accepted and appology given for my 'surly' responses to something that hit a nerve.

However, my original post is only half a joke. I do have a 2x2 with Randy L' Teton's autograph and plan to get some other numismatic noteables to do the same thing with other 2x2's. The coin inside means very little in these cases exceopt the signed 2x2 would look stupid without a coin inside of it.

    Anyway, bygones/bygones and all that.
