What I love about this hobby

Anyone can get a lot of satisfaction, no matter how much money you have to spend. I went to Long Beach and spent about $100 and had the time of my life.

  • I second that, Mikey. I had some eBay lots come in this week that totaled under $100, and I just had a great time.

I have had a foot in each end of the coin spectrum at one time or another. And I swear I'm enjoying what I'm doing now more.

I've said it before, it's like looking at an old man in public wearing a canary yellow leisure suit and a hat with fishing lures in it---there is a wonderful freedom to knowing you are outside the loop!!

The only absolute I can tell you is if it's making you unhappy--then something's not working right.

    Absolutely true!

Although I will spend hundreds of dollars on individual coins, I had just as much enjoyment spending $0.75 as a kid on lower grade examples. Thus even if I were to win the lottery, I'd have no more fun that I am already.

  • Right on Mikey. Just being there surrounded by all those coins is awesome. Its not the dollar amount that makes you a collector, its the love of the game.image
  • I can go to a big show and spend $100 (or even less) and have a great time! both with my purchases and window shopping coins that I don't get to see in person except maybe once or twice a year. A big show is better than going to a museum because you can often handle the displays. image

I think that the social aspect of the hobby is the most important. I am glad you had fun. Thats what the hobby is all about.
