Cracking out versus Crossing

If I've got several very nice PCI MS63+ coins (based on my grading as well as PCI) and want to submit to NGC (I've got 5 free Early Bird submissions) should I crack them and submit raw or should I just send them in the PCI holders? Opinions?

With NGC, I'd submit them for crossover in the holders. They seem less prone to holder bias. If it were PCGS, I'd crack them out and submit them raw.

  • Russ--that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. I know that PCGS might be a problem but I've heard that NGC doesn't exhibit any bias. I got the 5 12-day turn around gradings for joining their Collector Society.

  • I haven't submitted to NGC so I don't know about their possible bias. I recommended cracking them out based on my experience with PCGS, that I believe is biased.

Me too... little NGC experience but if you're confident in your abilities, why not crack them out anyway?

My PCGS record.... 0 for 3 on crossovers, 3 for 4 (hitting my target grade) on crackouts. The one I missed will get another shot at a later time (PCGS dropped me from NGC MS62 to AU58 image)

If you trust your grading and feel confident, I d crack them out for sure. That will definitely end any chance for bias and grading through the plastic.

To me it would not make much difference. The PCI holder is just about worthless so far I'm concerned. The brand name has gone from fair to middling to the pits.

Now if it is NGC to PCGS, that's another story. Despite the fact that you probably have about much chance as a snow ball in hell of getting a cross, I would not crack an NGC holder in most cases.
