Greeting from a new member

Greetings and hello to all. I am new to coin collecting as well as this forum. I collect at this time more for the artwork than the value, as this is what drew me to coin collecting. My collecting is most likey very common among beginners, modern. I have been collecting dollars due to the varied art work as well as the weight of a dollar in my hand.. (Something I remember from my childhood with the Eisn Dollar). I have watched this forum for some time now. I enjoy the striaght talk and the advice. I hope to keep my questions pointed and look forward to your input.

Before I close I want to thank the person that was giving advice to the man that was going into Law School. If I remember correctly, his statement was "If its getting to be too much to keep up just say out loud "you want fries with that". As an instructor myself, I am alway in the market for a pointed statement the will keep the drive alive in my students.

Allow me to raise my glass, Thank you

    Welcome aboard Dave.

Speaking of Ikes, I have three 76-P T2 coins I just bought raw. They are all snug in their flips on their way to PCGS. Looking for 65 & 66 grades. Two are really something, but each has a single heavier hit that will keep them from the mighty 67 grade.

I often carry an Ike in my pocket.

Dollar Dave: Welcome to the forum. I love Dollars also, and have specialized in Morgans, and am now broadening my focus and education by also studying and collecting some earlier type dollars, like Seated Liberty and Draped Bust.

I agree with you and love the big Gold & Silver Coins -- that's why I also collect $20 Liberties and Saint Gaudens gold pieces.

There are alot of very friendly and knowledgeable numismatists (and coin collectors too) on the CU Forums. I think that you'll have a good time posting and reading things on these boards.

Welcome Dollars. If it's artwork you're interested in, might I suggest that you consider collecting commemorative coins, both modern and classic.

Welcome, Dollar Dave--if you love artwork on large coins, then it goes without saying that you must appreciate Peace dollars--probably the most gorgeous Dollar coin ever minted, when properly struck. It took me several years to realize this but once I did, it was all over--Morgans are beautiful (I've got almost 100) and early dollars are certainly works of art (I'm still looking for one for my type set) but a well struck Peace Dollar is a thing of beauty--My 1921 MS64 Peace is the coin I take out and look at when I start to wonder why I collect--and that is from a die hard Morgan Dollar, Bust Half collector! I also collect early Greek coinage-tetradrachms from 300 BC and later--and the Peace dollar comes closest to replicating the history of Greek coinage. Again--glad you're here!

Welcome .... if you are in it for fun, how can you go wrong buying what you like? If you decide to consider other dollaes, the older ones have nice populations indicating good values.
