How much above greysheet did you have to pay for your icon coin ?

Beleive it or not i gladly paid above sheet for my best coin, i don't know what greysheet was for a 65 graded 92 S barber half, so i have no idea what a 66 would be. I'm sure blue sheet at 66 would correspond at 20-25 % less then grey sheet, but i will bet i paid more than any formula that would equal greysheet at the 66 level, but i'm also sure it's not a muliple.

So how much above sheet levels did you pay for all those pretty icon coins that i would have baught first if i'd seen them before you did ?

Yes, there is a point to this thread besides my own curiousity, but that point won't become clear unless enough people respond with honost answers. Les

My ICON green/yellow Peacock toned Ike set me back $600.00. It's $20. without the toning. That's 3000% over sheet.

My current sigline coin set me back a whopping $20. I've had it graded and it is now in an MS65 holder, thus giving it a $50 price tag if it were your run of the mill 65. However, given the very unique colors and the fact that these things just don't happen, I'd say this coin is quite unusual and rare and nope it ain't going anywhere, so for me, below greysheet! image

    Graysheet doesn't list a price for a 50-D Jefferson in 66FS, but I paid
twice the going rate at the time. Sure glad I did, as I've not seen one

I bought mine at the Sept 2002 Long Beach show. I paid 160% of greysheet (60% over greysheet). It is very fresh looking. An average strike at best, but the luster and surfaces really turned me on.

Tom, i've never seen a better ms 64 seated half and the majority of the ones i've seen graded 67 do not have luster that full. Hard to tell from the image, but do you think that coin was ever dipped ? Les

Les, I'm not too sure if it has or has not. It looks like a nice coin and the gods at PCGS said that it is still an acceptable coin, so I'm happy with it regardless. Here's a much larger picture to try to help you determine if it has.

There is no Greysheet on my icon coin. I believe Krause lists it at $20 BU, or something like that. I paid $35. Boy, that dealer could see me coming.

  • My icon coin, the 1892 PCGS PR66DCAM I do not believe has a grey sheet value. I did pay about 30-40% above PR66 grey sheet for it. The 1915 sig line coin I paid about 30% above grey sheet for. It is really close to CAM and a borderline PR67; all in all it is a very PQ example for the date and grade. I will be really surprized to see a CAM graded for that year.

My icon coin is a Chain Cent (Sheldon 4, the Periods variety) that I bought circa 1985. I believe that I paid 20% to 30% over bid at the time. My benchmark when I was buying my early coins in the 1970s and 1980s was that I would pay 30% over bid for them, but they had to meet my standards.

Today "bid" is three to four times what I paid for it.

Well, I'd have to go with 0. Mainly because mine was taken at the UT-USC game of 2002. Although my next icon may be a 1973s cent. And for that I paid 1 cent.

CU was kind enough to lend me the two coins I've used for an icon. I do have
one of each mint made for circulation in my set which cost a total of 50 cents.

Tough to say what the cost of the ten coins in my mint sets cost. I'd guess pro-
rated to the gems in the sets they were about $2.50.
